📰 May Headline Recap 📰 While s*x trafficking, exploitation, and abuse often remain hidden, recent arrests and convictions in our region demonstrate that it’s actively occurring in our communities.

Because it’s widely recognized as one of the most underreported crimes, the true scope of exploitation in our community is likely far greater than what appears in official reports.

What we can confidently confirm is that children and adults are being bought, used, sold, solicited, groomed, and abused in McHenry, Lake, Kane Counties and beyond.

Every day we walk alongside women who have experienced the devastating consequences of being treated as commodities rather than human beings.

While certainly not every person on OnlyFans is being trafficked, we believe society must examine cultural and economic systems that normalize the buying and selling of s*x, especially when vulnerability, power imbalances, and exploitation so often intersect.

Just because something is socially acceptable doesn't mean it's harmless. 💜

Supporting Home of The Sparrow, Inc. today at their Hope for Children Walk! ☀️👟

Grateful for their mission to empower women and children as they journey from homelessness to self-sufficiency. ✨ Homelessness and exploitation are closely interlinked because people without stable housing are often more vulnerable to manipulation, coercion, and abuse in exchange for basic needs like shelter, food, or money.

This vulnerability can increase the risk of trafficking and other forms of abuse. In fact, 60% of the women we served in 2025 experienced homelessness. 💜

Sometimes we're asked why we don’t post photos of our residents on social media or in our eblasts.

At Refuge for Women Chicago, we prioritize privacy, dignity, and safety as women heal and rebuild their lives. In seeking to be more survivor-informed, conversations with past residents and graduates have helped inform this guiding principle.
