🎃 A gentle reminder this Halloween season: not everyone experiences this time of year the same way.

For survivors of s*xual exploitation, abuse, and other trauma, Halloween and its frightening environments may bring up difficult emotions or memories.

If that's true for you, you don't have to push through situations that leave you feeling unsafe.

Give yourself permission to set boundaries, change your plans, seek support, and prioritize your well-being. You don't owe anyone an explanation for protecting your peace. Be gentle with yourself. Healing isn't linear, and you don't have to navigate it alone. 💜

📢 Your idea of what a trafficker looks like could be preventing intervention.

We picture a dangerous stranger. Someone lurking in the shadows. Someone we would instinctively avoid.

But what if the trafficker is her husband? Her mother? A teenager's peer?

S*x trafficking doesn’t always begin with a stranger in a dark alley. Sometimes, it begins with someone she loves or trusts.

Traffickers can use affection, false promises, and emotional manipulation to create dependence before exploitation begins. And by the time the abuse becomes clear, the person causing harm may be someone she feels unable to leave.

This is why stereotypes are dangerous. If we only look for the villains we see in movies, we may miss the exploitation happening right in front of us.

Let’s challenge what we think trafficking looks like. Because recognizing the truth could help someone find freedom. 💜
