Tahoe has only a few evacuation routes.

More residents + more tourists + one-lane roads =
🔥 Dangerous wildfire evacuation conditions
🚨 Delayed emergency response
🌲 Greater risk to life and property

Ignoring fire reality is not responsible planning.

What “100% Lot Coverage” Means.

Normally, developers must leave open space so soil can absorb stormwater.
Under TRPA’s amendment, that changes — everything can be paved or built over.

Hard surfaces = more polluted runoff flowing directly into the lake.
This is how lake clarity is lost.

🚧 Construction Has Consequences

More construction in the Tahoe Basin means:
🌱 Exposed soil that washes away during rain and snowmelt
🚜 Heavy machinery that compacts and disturbs fragile ground
🛠️ Land disruption that can take decades to fully recover

Erosion is one of the biggest threats to Lake Tahoe’s clarity. Fine sediment from disturbed land is easily carried into streams and storm drains — and eventually straight into the lake. Once it’s there, it doesn’t just disappear.

Protecting Tahoe means limiting unnecessary construction and respecting what the land can handle.

On peak powder days, traffic already backs up for miles.

Now imagine adding thousands more residents and visitors — without expanding roads or parking.

More development doesn’t just hurt the view — it hurts safety.

Everyone loves fresh snow and bluebird ski days.

But more tall buildings and more people without proper infrastructure mean:
🚗 Gridlocked roads to resorts
🚑 Slower emergency response
🧊 Unsafe winter travel conditions

Winter in Tahoe already pushes our systems — overdevelopment makes it worse.

Stop Urbanization of North Tahoe

North Tahoe was never meant to look like a city.

Urban-scale development threatens:
🌲 Forests
🌊 Lake clarity
🚒 Emergency safety
🏡 Community character

Stop Urbanization of North Tahoe.

TRPA Has Not Updated Tahoe’s Environmental Study

TRPA is pushing major development while refusing to conduct a new Environmental Impact Study (EIS) — the tool used to determine how much growth the lake can safely handle.

Approving large-scale amendments without updated science isn’t planning — it’s gambling with Tahoe’s future.

TRPA’s board once included:
✔️ Scientists
✔️ Environmentalists
✔️ Conservation leaders

Today, the board has shifted toward:
❌ Developers
❌ PR professionals
❌ Special-interest representatives

This explains the dramatic pivot from conservation to development — and why community oversight matters.

Environmental thresholds define how much Tahoe can handle —

🏗️ how many buildings
👥 how many people
🚗 how much traffic
🌲 how much environmental stress

These thresholds were created decades ago to prevent irreversible damage. Despite major environmental changes since then, TRPA has not updated the study, yet they continue approving aggressive development.

🕊️ “You’d better have wings in case of a fire.”

That’s what evacuation could feel like if dense development moves forward without updated safety planning.

Tahoe has limited roads. Wildfires move fast. People deserve better planning.
