Today, our members had the privilege of providing a fire safety and education program for the kindergarten students at Mountain View Elementary School!

We had a great time teaching the students about fire safety, what firefighters and EMS personnel do, and how to stay safe during an emergency.

We’re always grateful for opportunities like this to spend time with the youngest members of our community and help build positive relationships with our local first responders.

A big thank you to Mountain View Elementary School for having us, and to Ashe Medics, Inc for joining us in making it a great day of learning and fun!

When an emergency happens, every minute counts. Ashe County Emergency Management and the Ashe County Fire Marshal’s Office remind residents to make sure their driveways are accessible to fire trucks, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles.

Keep your driveway firm and passable, maintain at least 14 feet of vertical clearance from limbs and vegetation, and during the winter months, remove snow and ice and keep the full width of the driveway clear.

Large emergency vehicles need more room than a passenger vehicle. A driveway that you can travel may still be difficult—or impossible—for emergency apparatus to safely navigate.

Help us help you. A little maintenance today can make a critical difference when seconds matter.

🔥 IT’S FIRE PREVENTION MONTH! 🔥

Today, our staff had the pleasure of welcoming some visitors to the station!

Our crew conducted a fire safety and education lesson, followed by a walk-around of our engine where our visitors got an up-close look at some of the equipment we use. We’re always happy to welcome members of our community and help educate the public about fire safety and prevention!

With Fire Prevention Month upon us, now is a great time to check your smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms. Make sure they are working properly, test them regularly, and replace batteries when needed.

If you need assistance checking, installing, or inspecting your smoke or CO alarms, our staff is happy to help.

Fire prevention starts at home. A few minutes today can help keep you and your family safe tomorrow.

Recently our members refreshed their skills in over-the-bank rescue operations. Preparing for incidents involving injured patients in difficult-to-access terrain.

These types of emergencies can result from hiking accidents, vehicle accidents, and many other situations. Successful rescues require teamwork, communication, coordination, and proficiency with the equipment and techniques needed to safely reach and remove a patient.

Most importantly, mistakes were made, lessons were learned, and skills were sharpened in a controlled environment. That’s exactly why we train—so when the real call comes, we’re ready.

🇺🇸 WE WILL NEVER FORGET — SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

Today, we pause to remember the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001, including the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call.

We honor the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, military members, and ordinary citizens who showed extraordinary courage on one of our nation’s darkest days.

May we never forget their sacrifice, their courage, and the unity that followed.
