The chapter was named for Lady Anne Arundell, wife of Cecilius Calvert, 2nd Lord Baltimore. ember 16, 1911, the new chapter was introduced as "Ann Arundel" with the accent upon the first syllable of the surname (Air'-un-dell). Membership: Ann Arundel Chapter is 180+ members strong and welcomes new members from all walks of life. Any woman is eligible for membership in DAR who is no less than eighteen years of age and can prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. What we do: The DAR is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children. Nationally, DAR members volunteer more than 60,000 hours annually to veteran patients, award over $150,000 in scholarships and financial aid each year to students, and support schools for the underprivileged with annual donations exceeding one million dollars. Ann Arundel Chapter has a special mission of preserving and protecting an historic 18th century building, the Rising Sun Inn (pictured above). Do you want to know more about DAR? The Ann Arundel Chapter proudly honored the DAR's National Day of Service by supporting women's health in the local community.

Chapter members dedicated their time and effort to assemble over 200 "Emergency Menstrual Packages." These essential packages will be distributed to the health rooms of three area high schools, where school nurses will hand them out to young women as needed.

This successful service project demonstrates the chapter's commitment to ensuring local students have access to necessary supplies. Well done to all the members who participated in this impactful day of service!

American 250: The March to Independence ~ On August 23, 1775, King George III issued a Proclamation of Rebellion for the 13 colonies. He declared them in rebellion and traitors to the crown.

The American Colonies were moving toward a war with England. Up until this proclamation by King George, many colonies believed reconciliation was still possible. But this act by the Crown was a pivotal moment. A war for independence was all but certain.
