NWI No Child Hungry We are a 501(c)3 providing weekend meals, called Buddy Bags, to nearly 1000 local students who are food insecure in Lake & Porter County, IN.

Food-insecurity is an issue in Porter and Lake Counties in Indiana. Many times, the food provided at school is the primary meal for students who are food insecure. Buddy Bags help push off hunger for these students on the weekends when they're not in school. Buddy Bags contain breakfast, lunch, dinner, sweet snack and a salty snack for Saturday and Sunday. We also provide additional items when students have long weekends or holiday breaks. We deliver Buddy Bags to our designated schools weekly during the school year. Our program is anonymous--we get numbers, not names--out of respect for students' privacy.

🐷What an incredible evening at the Whole Hog Invitational! 🐷

A heartfelt THANK YOU to Meraki Hospitality Group for selecting NWI No Child Hungry as one of this year's Whole Hog Invitational beneficiaries. We are grateful not only for the support, but for the opportunity to be part of an event that brings our community together around great food, generosity, and a shared desire to make a difference.

Your creativity, time, talent, and passion shone through in every dish. These weren't simply meals—they were culinary masterpieces, and we were honored to experience what you created!

We’re excited to partner with Vibe House Pilates – Crown Point for a special way to move, give back, and help feed local kids!

And the giving doesn’t stop after class!

Beginning October 15 and continuing through November, Vibe House Crown Point will also be collecting kid-friendly, single-serve food items and $10 gift cards to local grocery stores and gas stations for our Buddy Bag Program.

We are especially grateful to Mia for choosing NWI No Child Hungry as Vibe House’s quarterly nonprofit partner and for finding such a fun way to rally her community around local kids. 🫶

Every class registration, food donation, and gift card helps us continue filling Buddy Bags for children right here in Northwest Indiana.

💚 World Mental Health Day
Today is World Mental Health Day, a reminder that mental health matters at every age—including childhood.
For some children, the end of the school week brings more than excitement for the weekend. It can also bring uncertainty.
Will there be enough food at home?
What will I eat tomorrow?
When will I eat again?
Food insecurity can add stress and worry to a child’s life. While a Buddy Bag cannot solve every challenge a child faces, it can help address one very basic need: knowing there will be food available over the weekend.
That’s why our work at NWI No Child Hungry is about more than putting food in a bag.
🎒 It’s about consistency.
💙 It’s about dignity.
🍎 It’s about helping reduce one source of worry.
🏫 And it’s about giving children one more resource to help them return to school ready for the week ahead.
On World Mental Health Day, we’re reminded that caring for children means caring for the whole child.
Food matters. Security matters. Mental health matters.

Can I get a WOOT! WOOT! TONIGHT is the inaugural Whole Hog Invitational hosted by Meraki Group!

Five chef teams will serve their creations featuring Indiana ingredients, including hogs from our local Howe Farms. Guests can taste them all and vote for a favorite! Your ticket also includes food trucks, two drink tickets, live entertainment, and family activities. A portion of event proceeds will support NWI No Child Hungry, and the 50/50 too.
