A single mom in my church just had a baby with Down's Syndrome. She also has a 2-year-old and her Dad lives with her. I didn't know anything about her situation, but I know having a special needs child takes a lot of work. I asked a lady in her Bible study group to find out if she has any needs -- and she definitely does. Her pipes burst and her bathrooms haven't been very functional. In one bath, a vanity needed to be put back on the wall and the shower fixed in the other one. They also needed a French door installed. A contractor who goes to my church donated a day of work yesterday and our church donated $1,000 for materials. I've added a list of things the contractor did. I'm going to go out this week and see what else needs to be done.

On July 27, a group of guys helped a lady in our church move some things into storage -- and helped her move her ex' stuff out of her storage unit. I didn't get any pics.

First project: A couple of weeks ago, Scott Silva introduced me to a lady who was recently widowed. Between Ms. Vicky's property and the road is a ditch. Her culvert collapsed and the county put in a new culvert, but a dry creek basically runs through her ditch and when it rains it floods her entire front yard. The county put in two culverts and dirt, but without a retaining wall, all of the dirt the county put in would have been quickly washed away. Me, Scott Silva, and Chris Spier went over and built her a new retaining wall using concrete bags to make the wall. The end photo is kind of ugly, but when the concrete cures Ms. Vicky will be able to remove the paper from the concrete. In this case, Ms. Vicky bought the supplies and we did the work.

You may have seen the post that I put on my personal page about this service project. Many people are struggling financially and we all need to realize that God is our Provider -- not our paychecks, not our jobs.

One way that I felt that I can help is to help people who have needs -- whether their cars or around their homes -- and they don't have the resources to take care of those needs themselves.

The people at the top of that list would be the elderly, single moms, and special needs families.

This is a Christian outreach project that I am doing. I have basic to moderate handyman skills, but my strength lies in organizing projects. We will take on projects as we get the help, the funding, and the recipients.
