Our Story

As anything big it often starts small, Answer International started from a simple local food outreach. In 2004, Troy Brewer and his team were reaching out to people in the trash dumps of San Jose, Costa Rica. As they were giving out clothes and food, and loving on people, Troy came across the only nice house in that terrible slum. A sweet looking old lady came out and he noticed two little girls standing at the doorway. While the lady was talking to his team, Troy couldn’t help but notice how skinny and hopeless the girls looked. “Do you know what this place is, Troy?” his teammate asked. “No” “It’s the brothel, this lady is a madame, and she is actually negotiating a price for you to buy those two girls.” Troy couldn’t believe it that somebody would sell two starving children to a grown white man for s*xual pleasure. “I’ll buy them!” His intentions were to not just buy them for a day, but take them away and never let them return to this wretched place. As he was walking away holding two little hands in his, Troy was telling two stone-cold, expressionless faces that they are safe and would never be hurt again. They brought them to the orphanage they support. Eight days later, Troy returned and saw a complete transformation in the two rescued girls. They ran out to meet and hug him, and they cried in their full gratitude that they now had hope for their lives. That day marked the beginning of a crusade. Troy left the orphanage knowing exactly what he wanted to do … to liberate girls from the atrocities of s*x abuse and slavery. To bring life, hope and transformation. And that’s how Answer International was born, from randomly presented opportunities to a strategically planned initiative.
