It’s been some time since we’ve posted because its so tough when we have announce things like this. Recently we said goodbye to our beloved mini donkey, Thelma. With the close support, compassion, and guidance of our veterinary team, we made the heartbreaking decision that her health challenges had simply become too much, and that the kindest gift left to give her was peace.
Thelma was small in size but impossibly large in presence. She had a way of quietly stealing hearts. A gentle soul, a soft nuzzle, a calm steadiness that made people slow down without even realizing it. She asked for very little and gave so much just by being herself. As many of you know while normally quiet she would let everyone know when she needed something.
This decision was made out of love, not loss of hope. Out of respect for her dignity, her comfort, and the life she had already bravely lived. We stayed with her, spoke to her, and made sure she knew she was safe, cherished, and never alone. Jack and Louise were there as well to understand what had happened to one of their trio.
Grief is the price of loving deeply, and Thelma was deeply loved by us, by her herd by all of you who followed her story, smiled at her photos, and held space for animals like her.
Run free, sweet Thelma. No pain. No struggle. Just sunshine, soft ground, and endless peace.
You will always be part of this place, and part of us. We miss you.
