Rebecca Simons of Naturally Sassy Soaps spoke with us today about how she got into the soap-making business. In addition to soaps, you can find lotions, oils, shampoos, laundry detergent and stuff for beards and hair. She has stores in Crossville & Cookeville, as well as an online store. And she brought goodies as well!

Here is a brief polio update of Rotary's #1 priority; The Global Eradication of Polio.

As of June 1st, there were
seven (7) confirmed cases of polio in 2026, four (4) in Afghanistan, and
three (3) in Pakistan.

During the same period last year we had 14 cases so we are showing a considerable improvement.

And finally, June 30 will end my 10-year term as District 6780 PolioPlus Chair. I want to thank each and every one of you for all you have done in support of Rotary’s #1 priority; the global eradication of Polio!

We were blessed to have our scholarship recipients join us this morning!

Bo Wattenbarger (SMHS) received our Rebecca Foster Memorial Scholarship, which is presented to a student in the health sciences field. Joining in the presentation was the Foster family. Rebecca was a long-time Rotarian with our club.

Also receiving scholarships were Elijah Baker (Christian Academy), Emeri Sherrill (SMHS), Evan Mosely (SMHS), and Briggs Lowe (SMHS).

Good luck to all our recipients as they further their education!

The number of wild polio cases for 2026 as of March 30th, 2026, is 2.

One in Pakistan and one in Afghanistan.

At this point last year, we had 9 cases.

The most recent confirmed case of Wild Polio occurred in Pakistan on February 10, 2026.

You may have seen a headline stating that Polio was detected in London in recent weeks. While that’s true, it was not Wild Polio, but rather circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus which is a weakened vaccine derived virus. It was detected during a routine sample taken from a sewage treatment plant and may have been excreted by someone who had received oral polio vaccine or had come into contact with someone who had. While uncommon, it’s not unheard of and underscores the need for communities to maintain high vaccination rates. Fortunately, there have been no reported cases of paralysis in the UK in recent years.
