Creative Compassion recently had the opportunity for our very own, Christy and Sarah, to meet with Chelsea Merrell, State Field Director for U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn, to share more about the work being done across Tennessee to address affordable housing needs.

Opportunities like this matter deeply to organizations like ours. Having meaningful conversations with state leadership and their teams helps bring greater awareness to the housing challenges facing communities throughout the Upper Cumberland and beyond — while also highlighting the impact that collaboration and community-driven solutions can make.

We are grateful for the time spent learning more about our mission, our programs, and the people we serve each day through housing stability initiatives, home repairs, accessibility work, and affordable housing development.

As Creative Compassion continues to grow, conversations like these give us hope for stronger partnerships, greater awareness, and expanded opportunities to create lasting impact for families across our region and state.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice secured freedoms we often take for granted, and today we reflect with gratitude and remembrance.

At Creative Compassion, it is a privilege to serve veterans in our community through programs designed to provide safe, stable, and supportive housing solutions. We are continually inspired by the courage, resilience, and sacrifice of those who have served.

Today, we remember the fallen, honor their legacy, and extend our deepest gratitude to the families who carry that sacrifice every day.

It takes us all working together to make a difference in our communities and the lives of our neighbors. Collaboration is the key!



For this week's Loan Fund Friday, we are taking a look at Creative Compassion, Inc. (CCI)

CCI was created in 1989 to help the families of Cumberland County, Tennessee and its surrounding areas with home ownership, home repair, and credit training. Crossville is a city in Cumberland County where the median household income is just over $40,000, and 22% of the population lives just under the poverty line.

In 2023, HAC awarded a Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP) loan to develop 3 lots for new housing in Crossville. The homes were designed to be 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, or 4 bedrooms and 2 baths based on what the homebuyers needed. The homes were also designed to be affordable to low- and very low-income households, with the use of homebuyer subsidies of $30,000 - $40,000 per unit.

HAC issued the loan at the end of 2023, and by 2024, construction on all three of the homes was completed. Through HAC, CCI was able to create homeownership opportunities in a city that needed it most.
