“Free kittens”… but are they really free?

We see these posts all the time. Adorable kittens being given away for free. But responsible pet ownership is anything but free.

Every kitten needs vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, parasite treatment, proper nutrition, and ongoing veterinary care.

Sadly, many free kittens never get spayed or neutered, leading to more unwanted litters and more cats struggling to survive.

At Cat Trap Fever, we see the consequences every day.

If you’re adopting a kitten, please be prepared for the financial responsibility and lifetime commitment. And if you’re giving kittens away, please take the time to find responsible homes.

Free kittens are never truly free. Every kitten deserves a healthy, safe, and loved life.💗

Our sweet Ziggy is as adorable as she is affectionate, and she’s quite the playful little girl, too!

All she asks is to be your one and only kitty. She loves her people and would prefer to have all those lovins to herself!

This sweetheart is more than ready for her happily ever after. Could that be with you?

RETURN vs. RELEASE — There’s a BIG Difference!

Trap-Neuter-Return means returning a spayed or neutered cat to the familiar territory it knows, where it has established food sources and hopefully a caretaker.

Trap-Neuter-Release can mean releasing a cat somewhere unfamiliar, such as a feeding station or another colony.

Here’s the problem. Cats are territorial. Just because food and shelter are available doesn’t mean they’ll stay. Many will wander off trying to find their way home, putting themselves at risk of injury, starvation, or worse.

Relocating cats requires a careful acclimation process, and even then, there’s no guarantee they’ll stay.

We cannot stress this enough: The “R” should stand for RETURN.

TNR is about more than preventing kittens. It’s about protecting the lives of the cats we’re trying to help.

Their lives matter. Where we put them matters. 💗

We can't change what they've been through, but we sure can make the rest of their lives wonderful. Every rescue deserves to know what it feels like to be safe, happy, and loved. And maybe just a little spoiled, too.💗

And can we just say, these are the cutest books ever! 😊

We would love for our community to show Rita some support! By purchasing one of these adorable books, you’ll not only be supporting a local author, but also helping us continue our mission of improving the lives of cats throughout Cumberland County.

Rita will be at several upcoming local events, so be sure to check out the flyer for dates and locations!

Thank you, Rita, for your kindness and generosity! We are so grateful for people like you who believe in what we do. 😸
