WHY IS THE YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL STYLE SHOW HOSTING A GOLF TOURNEY??? MORE SCHOLARSHIPS!
When one of the recipients of the $500 scholarship asked to be presented the check at the beginning of the golf tourney, we were excited to highlight this amazing blessing!
A special presentation was made before teeing off with the arrangement to present Eoin Horn of Spur his scholarship. Shown are Tammy Harkins, YBSS Board Member and Tourney organizer, Eoin Horn, and his boss Blaze Thomas of Clearway Energy.
Scholarship applications and awards are kept completely confidential, but since a young man from Spur fighting cancer came with his boss, Blaze Thomas who was playing in the tourney, Eoin asked to be presented the check at the beginning of the tourney as a testimony to the good work the YBSS is doing across the South Plains. This is what Blaze had to say about Eoin, “Eoin is a young man who currently works under me at a power generation plant, who is currently going through radiation. He had back issues and went to the doctor to get it checked. It turned out to be a cancerous cist. Surgery, removing it and 8 weeks of radiation was the answer to getting this taken care of. Eoin, being a small-town farm boy, (even though it is Spur!) is waking up daily coming to work and leaving work around lunch every day to commute to Lubbock for his treatment. Being 22 and hearing that news must have been very scary to hear, but you never would have known that speaking with Eoin. He is a positive and hardworking young man who hasn't let this bring him down. I'm super proud of the way he has handled this and the man he is today. I couldn't think of a more deserving candidate. With all the bad in the world it is so refreshing seeing all the good that has come of this bad situation. Between this amazing group of people here with this awesome scholarship opportunity, and co- workers of Clearway Energy donating PTO to help ease the pain of having to leave work early daily for radiation treatment, I'm super proud of Eoin and keep the fight going!”
Anyone fighting cancer across the South Plains, or the patient’s caregiver is eligible to apply for the $500 scholarship. The money is designed to help with medical costs, fuel needed for treatments, grocery costs, and other possibilities. Since the money is collected across the South Plains, it is a blessing to be able to turn around and bless those fighting cancer across the South Plains. Application may be made at docs.google.com. So far this year the YBSS has awarded 21 scholarships! Thank you to all who participated in the golf tourney to be able to give more scholarships!
The YBSS conducted the golf tourney to raise more money to be able to give even more scholarships to cancer fighters across the South Plains or their caregivers! The YBSS golf tourney was held on Monday and raised $9,950 or the equivalent of 20 scholarships! Tourney money was raised by hole sponsors, player entry fees, and signs sponsored in memory and in honor of cancer fighters!
A huge thank you is extended to the Lorenzo Country Club for hosting the tourney and to Signs on the Go, owned by Gary and Kacie Tucker, for donating the signs. Lots of volunteers worked to make the first annual tourney a success!
