“Alongside Mexico’s revolution at the beginning of the 20th century, the guitar, music, and Mexican society underwent a significant shift. As the government was rebuilt, Mexico sought to create a unique cultural identity to distinguish itself from its colonial past. This lecture examines the figures, repertoire, and changes to the guitar during this period that would ultimately act as a foundation for composers and works of the modern Mexican guitar.”
