Very High to Extreme Fire Danger today for Houston County. Please use caution when using equipment such as mulchers and mowing equipment. A spotter should used when conducting any outdoor welding and should have ample water source. Reminder that Houston County is under a Burn Ban.

Lightning strikes on trees can smolder for several days before making their presence known. AVFD has two within a 3-mile span. Here we are doing a burn to help prevent a grass fire when the tree falls. Keep your eyes out for smoking trees on your property if you’ve had any lightning storms roll through.

AVFD responded to a major accident on Hwy 21 yesterday. To the citizens who took time out of their personal lives to render aid, we thank you! Some of these individuals used saws and machetes to cut their way into the trees to get to the individual and kept him still and awake until medical personnel (EMS) could arrive and render professional care. Others helped with clean-up and communication on scene. It takes a village, and ours is wonderful! If any of our village would like to join our volunteer department, please do. Any time you can offer is valuable, and it will answer some of those “why are they doing it that way?” questions. 🤗😊 God bless and be safe!
