Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. As we pause to reflect, we honor the 2,562 civilians, 343 firefighters, and 72 law enforcement officers who lost their lives, alongside the countless heroes at Ground Zero, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The tragedy of 9/11 changed our nation forever, but it also sparked an incredible, enduring wave of volunteerism. That national desire to help one another was the direct catalyst for the creation of the Citizen Corps programs—including CERT, the Medical Reserve Corps, and Fire Corps. These programs were built to harness that spirit of service, empowering everyday citizens to train, prepare, and stand alongside our first responders.
As Prepared Pete takes a knee in this 25th-anniversary tribute: May we still never forget. Let’s honor their legacy today and every day by looking out for one another and serving our communities.
