The Doane Chapter of AAUP will have its first Fall 2023 meeting on Friday, August 25 at 4 P.M. The location is College Heights Country Club1225 E 4th StCrete, NE 68333 This will be primarily a social event, giving people an opportunity to meet other faculty members and to learn more about both the national AAUP organization and the activities of the Doane chapter. The first drink of the afternoon will be paid for by the chapter!

It's time for the Doane Chapter of AAUP to begin its work for the 2022-23 academic year. Our first priority is to get more faculty involved, since what we do as a chapter depends entirely on the interests and energy of the membership. If you are in Crete today, Friday, September 23, then drop by the Crete Country Club (1225 E 4th St) between 4 PM and 5:30 PM to meet fellow faculty members socially and learn more about AAUP. The first round of drinks will be provided by the chapter!

Here is a recent report on faculty salaries. Warning: it's not good news.

The AAUP's 2021–22 Annual Report on the Economic Status of the Profession, released today, finds that real wages for full-time faculty members decreased 5.0 percent after adjusting for inflation, the largest one-year decrease on record since the AAUP began tracking this measure in 1972.

A new issue of the AFCON Sentinel just came out and gives some April News from the Academic Freedom Coalition of Nebraska. Vicki Wood, President-elect of AFCON, reproduces her statement to the Nebraska State Board of Education concerning attacks on teachers and school librarians accusing them of providing obscene materials to children. Her statement emphasized that librarians are professionally trained to provide collections that serve the needs of all students and that determining whether a work is obscene must be based on the entire work and not on a small number of sentences taken out of context....
