The Doane University community mourns the passing of Kenneth โKenโ Fridrich โ59, a devoted alumnus, trustee, and friend whose connection to Doane spanned nearly his entire adult life.
As a Doane student, Ken embraced many parts of campus life. He played football and menโs basketball, was a member of Alpha Omega fraternity and Student Congress, and served as president of his senior class before graduating in 1959.
That involvement grew into an extraordinary lifetime of service. For 56 years, Ken served on the Doane University Board of Trustees, sharing his leadership, wisdom, and deep commitment to the university and generations of Doane students.
Beyond Doane, Ken built a 35-year career with The Principal Financial Group and served in numerous leadership roles in Omaha and Des Moines, with a particular commitment to bettering the lives of children and young adults.
We are deeply grateful for all Ken gave to Doane โ first as a student, and for more than half a century as one of its most dedicated leaders. Our thoughts are with his wife of 65 years, Marjorie, their family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
Kenโs impact on Doane will be felt for generations.
For those wishing to pay their respects, visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at West Center Chapel in Omaha. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at Dundee Presbyterian Church, 5312 Underwood Ave., in Omaha.
Memorials may be directed to Doane University for the Fridrich Scholarship Fund.
