Some of our members are retired and looking for fun projects to do to keep them active. This French gentleman has a great idea of a backyard crafts project you could undertake!

After eight years of work alongside his grandson, Jean-Claude Fassler concluded his project

Our Bastille Day celebration on July 12 (we know, we were a couple days early) was great fun and well attended. Thank you to Mario and Peter from the Emerald Coast Blades fencing club who gave several demos then invited guests to take a stab at the sport. It was blistering hot out but everyone seems to have weathered the heat. Inside, Mary Richard, our celebrity chef, demonstrated how to make crêpes, and had an array of other yummy food available. We had photos from Noirmoutier displayed around the Bush House and showed videos of our trips to see our friends in Noirmoutier. We were really pleased with the turnout. Almost 50 visitors were counted but there were more who didn't sign the guest register.

We're getting ready for our Bastille Day Celebration at the Crestview History Museum, 10am to 2pm Saturday. It's been almost nine years since I got this Eiffel Tower and this morning I gave it a new coat of paint. The real one gets repainted about every seven years. I'm a couple years late. Oh well.

Are you ready to fence like a Three Musketeer, enjoy sweets like a Frenchman, and delve into the culture and heritage of Noirmoutier, Crestview's French Sister City? Then come celebrate Bastille Day (a couple days early) 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, at the historic Bush House/Crestview History Museum. The Crestview Area Sister City Program joins the museum in observing our 30th anniversary of friendship and partnership with Noirmoutier, a congenial island community off the west coast of France.

Our friends at Emerald Coast Blades fencing club will conduct fencing demos and even let you try on the protective gear and take a stab at the sport yourself (pun very intended!). Meanwhile, in the kitchen learn how to make a proper crêpe and sample other French treats. Sister City Program members will be on hand to share the island's culture as you view displays and videos about Noirmoutier. Plus, we'll welcome members of the local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter, who at 11:30 a.m. will dedicate our new cedar sapling in the Bush House front yard, replacing a tree lost many years ago. (There's a connection: King Louis XVI dang near bankrupted the royal treasury supporting our Revolutionary War.) Bring the kids and friends. It's all free! See you here!

We had a great time at our spring pique-nique. We couldn't ask for better weather, nicer friends or more delicious food! It was great catching up with everyone and discussing ideas for future visits to Noirmoutier and from our dear Noirmoutrin friends. A big Merci! to Isabelle Mills for the photos!

Bonjour y’all! It’s pique-nique day! Bring picnic food to share and join us in Twin Hills Park! Note we had to move to the west picnic shelter off Purl Adams Avenue. The east shelter is already occupied. Just look for the flags! See you shortly!
