If cell towers or Wi-Fi go down during the storm, certain iPhones and Android phones can still send messages through satellite!

For iPhone 14 or newer (iOS 18+):

Open Settings.
Go to Apps → Messages → Satellite Connection Demo (if available).
Follow the prompts to practice connecting to a satellite.

If you lose cell service and Wi-Fi:

Go outside somewhere with a clear view of the sky.
Open Messages. Your iPhone should offer the option to use satellite messaging.
Follow the on-screen instructions to connect and send a text.

For Android:

Open Settings → Safety & emergency → Satellite SOS on supported devices.
Tap Try a demo if available.
Follow the instructions to practice.

Important: Satellite service depends on your phone, carrier, and location. Not all Android phones support it, and emergency SOS is different from regular texting.

For emergencies, always try 911 first. If you can’t connect, use Emergency SOS via satellite if your phone supports it.

Hurricane Isaias may remain a Cat 3 hurricane by landfall, strictly based on a sub-10mph change.

Storm surge is still seven to nine feet, with six to eight inches expected on the Western portion of the county. Four to six inches are expected on the East side.

Tropical force winds will be felt by 2 p.m. with strong force winds appearing at 7 p.m. and hurricane force winds by 9 p.m.

Reminder: Bridges close at 40MPH sustained winds- this is a DOT decision and executed by FHP.

The center of MAJOR Hurricane Isaias is expected to
reach the northwest Florida coast tonight:

● Impacts are expected for a large portion of south
Alabama and northwest Florida.
● Significant impacts are likely:
● Hurricane-force winds - near the center, along with
an expansive tropical storm force wind field
● Life-threatening storm surge - areas along and
east of where the center makes landfall
● Dangerous beach conditions
● Life-threatening flash flooding - especially over
coastal counties
● Tornadoes - areas east of the center
