❤️ THANK YOU, NORTHWEST FLORIDA STATE COLLEGE! ❤️
Once again, We Reign Sickle Cell Corporation was honored to be invited to Northwest Florida State College to teach the ABCs of Sickle Cell Disease to the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Professor Jackson led the class, and we had a VERY special treat — the one and only Dr. Simone Uwan, MD, with Sickle Cell Medical Advocacy Inc., joined us to answer questions and share her expertise from both the medical and patient perspectives.
And let us tell you… there are always levels to partnership!🤝🏾
The more we connect, collaborate, and learn from one another, the more we realize there is ALWAYS something new to learn. Dr. Uwan even shared information that was new to some of us!

The questions from the Radiography, and Physical Therapy and medical lab tech students were incredible.
From:
❓ “Why is sickle cell so painful?”
to:
❓ “What would you recommend a patient do if they aren't receiving proper care at a hospital?”
These are the conversations that matter.
But one moment really reminded us WHY WE DO THIS.
One young lady in the room already works at a local hospital. She shared that she has witnessed firsthand situations where patients with sickle cell were not believed by doctors or nurses.
She said she feels helpless because it wasn't just one isolated incident — she has seen it happen to a local warrior more than once.
As she spoke with our President, Allison Morris, she became emotional and literally broke down in tears.
Allison could only hug her and tell her:
“That's what you can do. Be an advocate for that patient. And if you see it happen again, call us.”
That moment meant everything.
We also spoke about our beloved board member Kat Kirby and her daughter in law that passed from sickle cell complications and hospital negligence. It definitely took a lot for us to not break down but we have to remember their names.
We aren't here to make anyone lose their license. We aren't here to attack healthcare professionals.
We are here because we want those who are entrusted with our lives to be the professionals they are supposed to be.
Know your job.
Know the disease.
Listen to your patients.
Believe them.
Advocate for them.
You took an oath.
And for the healthcare students sitting in that classroom today, YOU have the opportunity to be different.
If we reached just ONE future healthcare professional today…
If one student walks into a hospital tomorrow and remembers what they learned…
If one patient is believed because of this conversation…
THEN IT WAS WORTH IT.❤️

We don't just want better healthcare.
We want better understanding.
We want better advocacy.
And most importantly, we want better outcomes for our warriors.
