BRAVO TO OUR FIRE CREWS!!! Thank you for keeping our friends in the Almont/ Taylor Canyon Area safe and for achieving 100% containment on the fire after the lightning strike. Some helpful tips to remember to stay safe. Move firewood 30 feet away from the house. Keep grass cut short around the house. And for this summer, have a GO BAG ready for the "just in case" We want everyone to have a safe remainder of the summer, but we are not out of the danger yet.

Please be aware and stay alert if you live in or near Almont/ Jack's Cabin Area. A fire has been reported. Cause is not listed and most likely a lightning strike. Use caution in that area. The fire is being called the Taylor Canyon Fire. You can download the app WATCH DUTY to stay up to date on all alerts for this fire and the surrounding areas

With high winds moving through, its a good idea to stay aware of emergency notices and alerts. Crested Butte is NOT in any evacuation alerts and does not have fire in the direct vicinity. The map and link below help you see what zone you are in should any alerts be issued. Remember Stage 2 Fire Restrictions mean NO OPEN BURNING of any kind. No smoking unless inside a vehicle, trailer, or building. You CANNOT smoke on Elk Ave. Pay attention to water restrictions. Fines will be given if not followed.

Due to the unexpected growth of the Elk Fire overnight and forecasted winds this afternoon, the Hinsdale County Sheriff's Office has updated evacuation notices for areas north and west of Lake City. For evacuation information or questions, contact Hinsdale County at 970-944-2225.

The Gunnison County Fairgrounds has been established as a livestock evacuation site for horses, cattle, goats, sheep, swine, and other large animals.

Highway 149 remains open, but motorists should expect increased firefighter traffic, reduced speeds, and smoke impacts.
Please do not stop at the fire operations site along Highway 149 for any reason.
