The Kenka Tanabata or "Fighting Tanabata" is a 900 year old Japanese festival held in Rikuzentakata on August 7th. Board member, Aki Downing, and her family are visiting RT and had the great experience of participating in the festival.

Board member Aki Downing is staying in Rikizentakata! She is doing important work connecting with people in Rikuzentakata. She and her husband Chris shared information about our local Yurok tribe. The meeting was VERY well attended and was featured on Japan's National News!

Del Norte High School Japan Club students are at Safeway now!

Please stop by and support their Mother’s Day fundraiser. They have baked goods, handmade Mother’s Day cards, origami, jewelry, and other handmade items available.

Your support means so much to these students and their activities.

They’ll be there until noon today.

Once again the community came together to create a special Kamome Festival. We thank everyone who made this a very special event!
Our Rikuzentakata delegation let us know how special you made them all feel and they truly consider themselves part of our community.
While there are many community representatives who participated, none of it could have happened without the professionalism and dedication of Crescent City CA - City Hall. Kelly Schellong Feola, Bridget Lacey, Erik Wier, and the city staff. Thank you for your partnership with our foundation. We are truly blessed to have this partnership!

Part of our mission is to prepare all Del Norte County 3rd and 5th graders for natural disasters that occur. Today we have many emergency service responders talking to children about emergency preparedness. Many agencies donate their time to meet with our children and we appreciate all of their efforts to keep our community safe and provide this vital education!
