North Coast Redwoods Writers' Conference Annual NCRWC September 2020

This Writer's Conference is located on the Del Norte Campus of the College of the Redwoods and is an opportunity for people here and in surrounding counties to learn from experts in writing and publishing for two intense days every September.

The planning committee of the North Coast Redwoods Writers' Conference has decided to follow current and projected quarantine recommendations and cancel our annual conference previously set for September 2020. We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause you.

We urge everyone to stay safe during these difficult times.

We hope you will pencil us in again for September 2021 and join us in Crescent City for our North Coast Redwoods Writers' Conference.

The North Coast Redwoods Writers' Conference Steering Committee was in the middle of planning our 2020 conference when Covid-19 made meeting in person impossible. We are interested in still having the conference in September, but we decided having some input from those who have attended the conference before would be great. Please follow the link below and tell us your thoughts about NCRWC in Del Norte county.

Calling interested Writers and lovers of books. The North Coast Redwoods Writers' Conference steering committee will convene on Friday, January 31, at noon, in CR’s Library Conference Room to start planning our Writer's Conference for 2020. If you live in Del Norte County or surrounding areas, we would love your help!

The North Coast Redwoods Writers’ Conference will take a hiatus in the fall of 2019.

Put on by a committee of volunteers, the steering committee is currently seeking community members
who are passionate about writing and interested in contributing to the planning process.
If you are interested in volunteering for the 2020 Writers' Conference,
please contact Ms. Kasey Hiner at [email protected]; thank you!

We are hopeful and look forward to continuing this local tradition next year.

Carolyne Wright was nominated for ten Pushcart Prizes before she won last year. Her poem: This Dream the World gains its title from a quote by William Stafford and it follows two sisters as they walk through the decades. Her poetry tells stories like memories, like dreams you can almost remember. She has learned multiple languages, using her skills and love of poetry to translate poems into English, so we can all hear the rhymes and rhythms of other countries. She is on the faculty of the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts’ Whidbey Writers’ Workshop MFA program and she will be joining us next week at our conference! It is not too late to sign up to hear this poet tell us all a little part of how she does it all.

Peter Brown Hoffmeister rock climbs and teaches high school and goes on outdoor adventures and writes novels and articles. And this September he is coming to Crescent City to present at our North Coast Redwoods Writers’ Conference! His presentations will concentrate on the right way to write for teenagers and the right way to fail, both of which he is an expert at. He takes the resilience he has learned in rock climbing and applies it to the writing process and the result is wonderful. Catch this NPR book review of his most recent publication.

This is KLCC. I’m Connie Bennett with a book review of “Too Shattered for Mending” by Peter Brown Hoffmeister. I hesitated to read it. A coming of age

Rob Carney is 72.8% water.
Of course, he would point, so are you.

He is a poet and a writer and a professor of poetry and dystopian fiction. One student said “the class didn’t feel like learning but playing” and when they had finished, they wrote better. He wins awards like Washington State Book Award and the Utah Book Award for Poetry (twice) and the 2014 Robinson Jeffers/Tor House Foundation Award for Poetry. He has a book coming out at the end of July, and chances are that one will win prizes too. Best of all, he will be a presenter at the North Coast Redwoods Writers’ conference in September and YOU (all 72.8% water of you) can take a class from him! Jennifer Brozek has one of the most complete Writer Websites I have ever seen. But we can expect nothing less from an avid gamer and former software engineer. She spends mornings working on writing projects and afternoons on editing. Her projects have included two Bram Stoker nominations, a Hugo nomination, a Scribe Award, and an Australian Shadows Award. She has edited anthologies for DAW, Baen Books, and Worldfire Press. Jennifer is also the creative director of Apocalypse Ink Productions and was the managing editor of Evil Girlfriend Media. She will be presenting at the North Coast Redwoods Writers’ Conference in September and will be discussing writing and how to create and present pitches to publishers. If you visit her website at http://www.jenniferbrozek.com/ make sure to check out the Tardis Free Little Library her husband made. So cool!
