Today marks one year since the Skrmetti decision, when the Supreme Court restricted access to care for trans youth in Ohio. Next week marks four years since Roe was overturned, effectively banning abortion in both WV and OH. And while we’ve always known that abortion care patients and transgender patients were not separate communities, that conviction is stronger now than ever.

In a new joint op-ed, we wrote about the intersection of abortion rights and trans rights—and how independent clinics like ours have stayed, expanded care, and stepped up to meet the needs of our communities.

We know insurance can be confusing, so here’s a straight answer about what we accept at the Women’s Health Center of Maryland.

Right now, we’re in-network with:

- Maryland Medicaid
- Maryland Physicians Care
- Peak Health
- Cigna
- United Health care (commercial only)
- Blue Cross Blue Shield (commercial only)
- Aetna (commercial only)

We’re actively working to get credentialed with more plans, including Priority Partners, which is currently pending. We’ll keep our community updated as that changes.

Don't see your insurance plan listed? We offer affordable self-pay options and transparent pricing for patients paying out of pocket, including those without coverage or whose insurance is not accepted. We never want cost or insurance coverage to be a barrier to accessing care.

Not sure if we take your plan? Just call us! We'll figure it out together.

Last month, we hosted a gathering in our clinic lobby with Author Renee Bracey Sherman and our Medical Director, Zander Curtis, for an incredible evening of community and conversation.

We kicked off the evening with WHC MD’s first-ever clinic tours, where folks got a closer look at our patient-centered space and got to hear about day-to-day operations.

Later, Renee and Zander led us in a book reading and discussion based on Renee’s book, Liberating Abortion— an honest, funny, and raw conversation about movement building, who gets centered in reproductive rights narratives, and why rage posting might be the enemy of progress.

You might want to order a copy of Liberating Abortion for yourself and find out what else we can learn from Renee Bracey Sherman.
Thank you to all the friends, new and old, who came to learn, share ideas, eat ice cream, see the space we’ve built and are so proud of.

And a special thanks to Queen City Creamery for donating the ice cream for this event –- go get yourselves a scoop and tell ‘em we sent ya!

This Fund-a-Thon event raised over $300 for the WHC Choice Fund, an abortion fund the helps Marylanders and West Virginians access legal abortion care. Stay tuned to find out who our new Choice Fund Mascot is later this week!

As we celebrate a milestone year for the Women's Health Centers and look toward the future of our work across WV and MD, we're also preparing for an important leadership transition.

After six years of dedicated service, Ramsie Monk will be moving on from her role at the end of June, leaving behind a stronger development program, deeper donor relationships, and a growing community of supporters committed to reproductive justice and healthcare access.

Now, we're looking for our next Development Director to help lead this work forward.

If you're passionate about fundraising, relationship building, and advancing compassionate, patient-centered healthcare for our rural communities, we'd love to hear from you.

Join us at the WHC MD clinic in Cresaptown for the first-ever clinic tour and ice-cream social with Queen City Creamery and, of course, a special evening with Renee Bracey Sherman, author of Liberating Abortion: Claiming Our History, Sharing Our Stories, and Building the Reproductive Future We Deserve.

Event Info:

Our Medical Director, Zander Curtis, will guide the conversation following the reading, which will begin at 7 PM. If you’d like to come early, we’ll be offering clinic tours and light refreshments from 6–7 PM.

This event is part of Fund-a-Thon, meaning every dollar raised goes directly to the WHC's Choice Fund—our abortion fund supporting patients in Maryland and West Virginia. Fund-a-Thon is a nationwide, grassroots effort to fund abortion access by investing in local abortion funds like ours.

Since Dobbs, we’ve distributed more than $400,000 to help patients access care—many of whom are traveling hundreds of miles to get it.

Can't make it but still want to support abortion access for Marylanders and West Virginians? Donate to our Fund-a-Thon campaign and help us reach $10k here: https://fund.nnaf.org/whcchoicefund

You may have seen headlines this week about mifepristone and changes to how the abortion pill can be accessed. We want you to have clear, accurate information.

Here's where things stand:

Last Friday, a federal appeals court ruled that mifepristone could no longer be prescribed through telehealth or sent by mail. On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court temporarily blocked that ruling. For now, telehealth and mail access to mifepristone is restored — this protection is in place through Monday, May 11, while the Supreme Court considers next steps.

What hasn't changed:

We are open. Medication abortion and procedural abortion are both available at our clinic in Cresaptown.

✦ Medication abortion is available up to 11 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy.
✦ Procedural abortion is available up to 16 weeks of pregnancy.

Mifepristone has been FDA-approved for more than 20 years. Its safety is well established. What's happening right now is a legal and political fight — not a medical one — and we want our community to feel clear and confident about their options.

We are here, we are watching closely, and we will keep you informed as this case develops.
