FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS…..

Creighton Bulldogs versus Ainsworth Bulldogs. . October 10, 2025.

A young but large Ainsworth team came to Creighton. Of the 23 kids on their roster 13 of them are sophomores. However, they did bring a large offensive/defensive line with them, which averaged 240 pounds per lineman. They also had a very capable senior quarterback.
This was also the last home game for Creighton‘s seven seniors,
Ethan Kuhl, Karter Gragert, Owen Doerr, Jorgan Condon, Calvin Wilmes, Lance Stange, and Deric Sayers.
Thank you Seniors!!!

Creighton, as the fans know, has been hit hard by the “injury bug” this season. On the sideline and not in uniform for the game were six Creighton Bulldogs.
Robinson LaDeaux, Karter Gragert, Tucker Tauber, Gaven White, Isaac Fanta, And no, I did not leave out, but yes, I left for last Jorgan Condon who underwent knee surgery on October 1st, which not only ended his football career, but also his wrestling career.

Captains met pregame and Creighton won the toss. They elected to defer receiving the ball until the second half. And defended the North goal we kicked off and Ainsworth did put together a good drive bringing the ball down to the 4 yard line before a fumble that was recovered by Creighton at the four. Our drive was stopped short, however, when Ainsworth returned the favor and intercepted the ball on the same four.
They were able to score on a 3 yard run. The two-point conversion run was good. At 9:24 in the first quarter it was Ainsworth 8 Creighton 0.

They kicked off the ball which we returned to the 39 yard line on a nice run by Coen Horstmann. we drove the ball down and scored ourselves on a nice 8 yard touchdown run. The two point run was good and with 7:51 in the first quarter it was Ainsworth 8, Creighton 8.

Hold onto your hats folks because this was a big offensive night and a lot of scoring happened!!
Following the kickoff to Ainsworth they drove the ball down and scored on a 33 yard touchdown run. They’re two point conversion was no good. With 7:02 left in the first quarter. It was Ainsworth 14 Creighton 8.

Following the Ainsworth kick off, which we returned to the 33 yard line. The blocking by Creighton‘s offensive line and up backs kicked into high gear!
The starting running back for Creighton because of injuries to seniors Jorgan Condon and Karter Gragert was freshman Haiden Horstmann. He was able to run behind the excellent blocking both at the line of scrimmage and downfield for 47 yard touchdown run! Two point conversion was also good and at 6:15 in the first quarter it was Ainsworth 14 Creighton 16.

This time following the Creighton kickoff, they were able to hold Ainsworth to four out and forced them to punt.
Creighton used the mixture of running and passing from quarterback Ethan Kuhl, which included a beautiful pass to Ethan Kuhlman, and concluded with a 2 yard touchdown run by Haiden and a two point conversion pass to Calvin Wilmes. With 1:20 left in the first quarter It was Ainsworth 14 Creighton 24.

But this is eight-man football and the scoring sometimes comes quick.
At 11:01 in the second quarter Ainsworth scored on the 1 yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion was no good and the score was Ainsworth 20 Creighton 24.

Again running and passing was used effectively by Creighton during the next drive which included a beautiful 25 yard pass to Calvin Wilmes while in route down the field and ended up with a 20 yard touchdown pass to Ethan Kuhlman. The two point version was no good and at 8:51 in the second quarter it was Ainsworth 20 Creighton 30.

However, on the following kick off by Creighton it was ran back for a touchdown and the two-point conversion was good so at 8:36 left in the first half it was Ainsworth 28 Creighton 30.

After receiving the kick off, Creighton again went on the drive mixing passes and running however we were intercepted to stall that drive Ainsworth mounted a drive of their own and scored from a six yard touchdown run, the two point conversion was no good and at 5:42 left in the first half. It was Ainsworth 34 Creighton 30.

The Ainsworth kickoff was a short one to our up back Owen Doerr who ran it back to the 36 yard line. This time Creighton while running behind huge blocking by the line and up back Ethan Kuhman, marched down the field were able to score on a 7 yard run by Haiden Horstmann 2 Point conversion pass was good to Ethan Kuhman and with 3:12 left in the first half. It was Ainsworth 34 Creighton 36.

After kicking the ball off, the Creighton defense was able to hold Ainsworth to a four and out. Creighton drove the ball down and scored on a 20 yard pass to Ethan Kuhlman the two point conversion pass to Calvin Wilmes was good and with nothing left on the clock at halftime was Ainsworth 34 Creighton 44.

A very hard fact not to be left out was was that during the second quarter Creighton lost starting quarterback, senior Ethan Kuhl to an injury, he did not return for the rest of the game. Ethan was replaced by freshman Dylon Nilson for the rest of the game.

The second half started with Ainsworth kicking the ball. We drove to the 35 yard line unfortunately fumbled the ball and they recovered and returned it for a touchdown. The two-point pass was good and at 10:55 in the third-quarter it was Ainsworth 42 Creighton 44.

Ainsworth again kicked off and Creighton drove the ball down the field scoring on a 21 yard touchdown run by quarterback Dylon Nilson the two point pass was no good.
With 6:37 left in the third quarter. It was Ainsworth 42 Creighton 50.

Following our kick off some tough defense kicked in with Braxton Eggerling having a 6 yard sack. However, as I said, in the beginning Ainsworth has a very good senior quarterback. He was able to scramble and on the next play threw a 23 yard touchdown pass. The two point run was good and with 41 seconds left in the third quarter was Ainsworth 48 Creighton 50.

Ainsworth kicked off and Creighton started at their 15 yard line when Haiden Horstmann once again behind the awesome blocking on the line of scrimmage and down the field busted loose for a 65 yard touchdown run! The 2 point pass to Ethan Kuhlman was good. With 30 seconds left in the third quarter it was Ainsworth 48 Creighton 58.

But hold onto your hats folks we’re heading into a high scoring fourth-quarter.
Creighton kicked off the ball and was returned to the 39 yard line and Ainsworth was able to a few plays later strike on a 37 yard touchdown pass, the two-point run was good. With 11:42 left in the game. It was Ainsworth 56 Creighton 58.

We were able to return the kick off to the 33 yard line of Ainsworth and once again Haiden scored on a 17 yard touchdown run. The two point pass was good. At 9:35 left in the game it was Ainsworth 56 Creighton 66.

We kicked off to Ainsworth. The defense once again held tight with George Burrell recovering a fumble at the 26 yard line. Haiden Horstmann again behind the fantastic blocking, which allowed him to run wild most of the night added a 26 yard touchdown run, the 2 point conversion run was good.
With 8:34 left in the game. It was Ainsworth 56 Creighton 74.

Following the Creighton kick off, Ainsworth was again driving down the field when Haiden Horstmann again contributed, this time on defense with an interception at the 37 yard line. Once again behind that line and the down field blocking Haiden scored on a 43 yard touchdown run, the two point conversion was no good.
With 8:04 left in the game.
It was Ainsworth 56 Creighton 80.

That was the end of the scoring in the game. However it should be noted that the defense ended the game with a fantastic stand, which included two sacks, by one by George Burrell, and one by Braxton Eggerling for 18 yards in total losses.

As I said after the game, this was a night where with two running backs out because of injuries a freshman Haiden Horstmann took over running back duties for the game. Unofficially he rushed for 460 yards on the game. Taking nothing away from Haiden because he is a quick physical and aggressive, running back and he plays the same way on defense.
The offensive line, usally Owen Doerr, Braxton Eggerling, Deric Sayers. The up back, Ethan Kuhlman. And the receivers, usally Coen Horstmann, Calvin Wilmes both on the line of scrimmage and
down field, all night long executed some of the their best blocking of the year!! Allowing Haiden to do the rest of it with his legs and vision as he scooted across the field each play on offense. That same line also allowed the quarterbacks a lot of time to be able to throw accurate passes to the receivers. Doing this as I mentioned earlier against Ainsworth’s line which averaged 240 pounds!!

So it was a fantastic night to be a Creighton Bulldog!!
It should be noted this TEAM played as a TEAM for well earned victory!

I also want to say Congratulations to the 2025 Lewis & Clark Cross Country Champion Connor Rohrer and the rest of the team!!!

Friday Night Lights.

Last Friday night the O’Neill St. Mary’s Cardinals came to Bill Harder Memorial field to take on your Creighton Bulldogs.
It was a beautiful evening 70° out and no wind.
St. Mary’s won the coin toss and deferred to receive the ball the second half.
Creighton received a kick off with the Ethan Kuhman returning it to our 27 yard line. Creighton proceeded to move the ball down the field mixing up passing and running. At 11:01 in the first quarter Ethan Kuhl scored on a 36 yard touchdown run behind some fantastic blocking both on the line and down field. Karter Gragert ran the two point Conversion Creighton went ahead 8 to 0.

Creighton kicked off with St. Mary’s returning to their 16 yard line.
On their first offensive play of the night their quarterback, who is a heck of an athlete and throughout the night displayed that all the talk about him is indeed true, scored on a 64 yard touchdown run. The two-point pass was good and at 10:43 in the first quarter of the ballgame it was 8 to 8.
Karter Gragert returned the kick off from Oneill St. Mary’s to 25 yard line again a mixture of passes and runs including a long one to Calvin Wilmes, along with a pass on third and 11 to Karter Gragert was capped by a 20 yard touchdown pass from Ethan Kuhl. Robinson LaDeaux scored the two point version and was 6:11 left in the first quarter. It was Creighton 16 St. Mary’s 8.

St. Mary’s returned the Creighton kick off to the 29 yard line and the defense started to show their muscles for Creighton. Isaac and Braxton met for a 10 yard sack on the quarterback and forced to punt.

Creighton took over on their ten yard line.
On fourth and six on this drive Ethan Kuhl completed a 14 yard pass and then St. Mary’s committed a pass interference. Which moved the ball to 19 yard line . Karter continued to move the ball down to the goal line with Karter running in on a 3 yard run behind great blocking again up the middle. The two point run failed at 9:25 left in the second quarter Creighton was ahead 22 to 8.

Creighton kicked off to St. Mary’s who brought it to the 30 yard line. Their quarterback then launched a 60 yard touchdown pass run for a score. The two-point version was good at nine minutes in the second quarter. It was Creighton 22 St. Mary’s 16.

St. Mary’s kicked us with Karter returning it to the 30 yard line on the third and seven Ethan Kuhl was able to hit Calvin Wilmes for a first down and then Karter went down to the 2 yard line and Ethan Kuhl was able to run a 2 yard touchdown run , the two point was no good at 7:31 in the second quarter it was Creighton 28 St. Mary’s 16

Creighton on their kickoff kicked in on sidekick, which was recovered by Haiden Horstmann on the 39 yard line. It was a great onside kick! However, St. Mary was able to stop the drive with an interception and then drove the ball down the field where they scored on a one yard run by their quarterback. The two-point pass was good with 2:44 left and a half. It was Creighton 28 St. Mary’s 24.
St. Mary’s kick the ball and we start on our 18 yard line pass to Robinson at the 34 yard line behind the excellent blocking of Ethan Kuhlman and Calvin Wilmes, Karter was able to run the ball to the 21 yard line however an interception in the end zone again stalled that drive.
So it halftime it was Creighton 28 St. Mary’s 24

Third-quarter started out with Creighton kicking to St. Mary’s who returned to their 30 yard line. They drove the ball down the field and scored on a touchdown run by their quarterback again from 10 yards out. The two-point conversion was good at 10:31 in the third quarter it was Creighton 28 Oneill St. Mary’s 33.

St. Mary’s would never relinquish the lead after this. After their kick off, we start on our 15 yard line Karter had a good run to 38 however, a sack fumble was recovered by St. Mary’s at our 27 yard line.
St. Mary’s moved the ball down the field and scored on a 3 yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion pass was good and an 8:38 in the third quarter it was Creighton 28 St. Mary’s 40
Coen Horstmann had a good return on the St. Mary’s kick off brought it to our 25 yard line we were able to convert fourth down conversion to the 36 however O’Neill stopped us and forced us to punt. They return to our 30 yard line. That drive ended in a 24 yard touchdown pass with a two point conversion no good and at 3:40 left in the third quarter. It was Creighton 28 Oneill St. Mary’s 46.

St. Mary’s kicked the ball and Isaac Fanta , one of the “up” men took the ball and ran to the 25 yard line. They never were able to take Isaac to the ground. However they stopped his forward motion finally with about four players at the 25 yard line. We were unable to move the ball and once again punted to St. Mary’s, who returned it to the 28. The quarterback was unable to throw a 28 yard touchdown pass. The two-point run was good and at 1:48 and the third quarter. It was Creighton 28 Oneill St. Mary’s 54.
Karter return the kick off to the 20 yard line however we were intercepted for a third time on the night this time. Which they returned to the 14 yard line. The quarterback then on the next play threw a 14 yard touchdown pass the two point conversion was no good.
Creighton 28 St. Mary’s 60.

After St. Mary’s kickoff we started on the 13 yard line. We were unable to move the ball and forced to punt to end the third-quarter.
In the fourth quarter St. Mary’s started roll the ball down and scored on a 17 yard touchdown pass the two point conversion was no good with 11:54 left in the fourth quarter it was Creighton 28 St. Mary’s 66

Oneill St. Mary’s kickoff was returned by Coen Horstmann to the 29 yard line. There was a nice pass to Karter from Ethan Kuhl on this drive which was stopped once again by an interception that St. Mary’s returned to 28 yard line.
St. Mary’s was driving the ball , they fumbled and Ethan Kuhlman was able to recover it however, as we were driving the ball, we fumbled in St. Mary’s were able to recover that. The game ended with the reserves getting some playing time and they’re being no more scoring.
The final score was O’Neill St. Mary’s Cardinals 66 and the Creighton Bulldogs 28.
Unfortunately it was truly was a tale of two different halves.
This week Tim Gragert will sit in for me along with Sam Morrill and Laurie Owens at the studio for Homecoming.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

Friday, September 12, 2025 your Creighton Bulldogs traveled to Randolph, Nebraska to take on the Randolph Cardinals. The temperature was a warm 83°, there was no breeze and humidity was high.
The Bulldogs were minus two players for this game. Junior Robinson Ladeaux and Senior Jorgan Condon were not suited up for the game.
Sam Morrill and I interviewed Jorgan at halftime with his parents permission. We received bad news from him that he goes in for knee surgery on October 1 and not only is he out for the rest of his senior year football, but he is also out for his senior year of wrestling.
Hopefully he will be back for his senior year of golf in the spring.
Jorgan has been a fun kid to watch grow into a leader and I for one will miss watching his tough running and receiving skills! I wish you well Jorgan!!
Creighton won the coin toss and deferred to receive the second half and defended the north goal.
We kicked off and Randolph started on the 30 yard line. The first defense play of the game was a nice tackle for 3 yard loss by Haiden Horstmann. Followed by a 7 yard sack by Calvin Wilmes. Randolph was forced to punt the ball on turnover of downs.
Creighton took over on the 35 yard line and worked the ball down the field before fumbling it and Randolph recovered at the 16 yard line.
Randolph was again unable to drive the ball with Braxton Eggerling and Ethan Kuhlman meeting at the quarterback for a 6 yard sack and Randolph was again forced to punt.
We took over on the 30 yard line was able to drive the ball down and with 2:28 left in the first quarter Karter Gragert was on the receiving end of a nice 23 yard touchdown pass from Ethan Kuhl Calvin Wilmes received a pass for the two-point play and Creighton went up 8-0
We kicked off the ball and once again the defense stepped up this time with a 8 yard sack by Ethan Kuhlman with Owen Doerr and Braxton Eggerling right behind him and with a fourth member of what I call “THE BEEF LINE” that being Lance Stange stuffing the ball runner on a crucial third downplay forcing once again another punt. Creighton started on their 15 yard line with Karter having a big run called back by a penalty.
At 11:17 in the second quarter Ethan passed a 42 yard pass to Coen Horstmann and the extra point run was good by for two points putting Creighton up 16 to 0.

Creighton kicked off to Randolph. Randolph started on their 15 yard line once again. The defense stepped up with Calvin Wilmes was having a 1 yard tackle for loss Issac Fanta, a 6 yard sack and then interception by Ethan Kuhlman at the 40 yard line.
Creighton started at 40 and Ethan Kuhl scampered for a 29 yard touchdown run with Ethan Kuhlman running in for the two-point conversion at 7:19 in the second quarter Creighton was ahead 24 to 0.

Defense again stopped Randolph and forced a punt.
Creighton took over on their 31 yard line and worked way down to go line where they gave Owen Doerr three chances to run the ball in from inside the 5 yard line. Owen proudly carried the ball into the end zone on a one yard plunge almost untouched. Ethan Kuhl ran two point conversion and 1:57 left in the second quarter Creighton was up 32 to nothing.

Creighton kicked off to Randolph, who started on 15 yard line and was unable to move the ball by the time halftime arrived.
After halftime, Creighton received a ball and started on their 27 yard line this time Karter Gragert had a 53 yard touchdown run with a two point pass from Ethan Kuhl to Calvin Wilmes at 11:44 and the third quarter Creighton 40 to 0 .

Once again, Creighton kicked off and the stiff defense allowed Randolph to their 39 yard line where a tackle for loss again by Calvin Wilmes forced to turnover on downs.
Creighton took over and Ethan Kuhl had a 39 yard touchdown run with beautiful blocking by the line which allowed him to scamper in for a touchdown , Karter Gragert ran into two point conversion and was 7:51 left in the third quarter and it was Creighton 48 to 0.

We kicked off again and Randolph was held by the stiff Creighton defense once again and forced to punt this time Creighton took over on our 17 yard line. Karter had a 69 yard touchdown run that was called back by a penalty which those in the booth may or may not have agreed with .

The fourth quarter saw a lot of action by substitution players on the Creighton side which will pay off down the road, and with Randolph at times keeping their starters in to play against our nonstarters.
There was a running clock so the fourth quarter went fast once again stout defense played tough with Haiden Horstmann having a 5 yard sack and the reserve defense, forcing a turnover on downs to take over on the 35 yard line of Creighton however that drive was stopped by an interception. Randolph over at the 18 yard line up there once again the defense was stout and forced to turnover on downs and Creighton took over the ball running the clock out with its reserves.

Making the final score for Creighton Bulldogs 48 and Randolph Cardinals 0.

Stay tuned next Friday night, where Sam Morrill and myself will broadcast from Bill Harder Memorial Field in Creighton Nebraska with Laurie Owens at the studio as your Creighton Bulldogs take on O’Neill St Mary’s Cardinals. Let’s hope we can de-feather these Cardinals as well as we de-feathered the last Cardinals.
Game time will be 7 PM.
