FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS…..
Creighton Bulldogs versus Ainsworth Bulldogs. . October 10, 2025.
A young but large Ainsworth team came to Creighton. Of the 23 kids on their roster 13 of them are sophomores. However, they did bring a large offensive/defensive line with them, which averaged 240 pounds per lineman. They also had a very capable senior quarterback.
This was also the last home game for Creighton‘s seven seniors,
Ethan Kuhl, Karter Gragert, Owen Doerr, Jorgan Condon, Calvin Wilmes, Lance Stange, and Deric Sayers.
Thank you Seniors!!!
Creighton, as the fans know, has been hit hard by the “injury bug” this season. On the sideline and not in uniform for the game were six Creighton Bulldogs.
Robinson LaDeaux, Karter Gragert, Tucker Tauber, Gaven White, Isaac Fanta, And no, I did not leave out, but yes, I left for last Jorgan Condon who underwent knee surgery on October 1st, which not only ended his football career, but also his wrestling career.
Captains met pregame and Creighton won the toss. They elected to defer receiving the ball until the second half. And defended the North goal we kicked off and Ainsworth did put together a good drive bringing the ball down to the 4 yard line before a fumble that was recovered by Creighton at the four. Our drive was stopped short, however, when Ainsworth returned the favor and intercepted the ball on the same four.
They were able to score on a 3 yard run. The two-point conversion run was good. At 9:24 in the first quarter it was Ainsworth 8 Creighton 0.
They kicked off the ball which we returned to the 39 yard line on a nice run by Coen Horstmann. we drove the ball down and scored ourselves on a nice 8 yard touchdown run. The two point run was good and with 7:51 in the first quarter it was Ainsworth 8, Creighton 8.
Hold onto your hats folks because this was a big offensive night and a lot of scoring happened!!
Following the kickoff to Ainsworth they drove the ball down and scored on a 33 yard touchdown run. They’re two point conversion was no good. With 7:02 left in the first quarter. It was Ainsworth 14 Creighton 8.
Following the Ainsworth kick off, which we returned to the 33 yard line. The blocking by Creighton‘s offensive line and up backs kicked into high gear!
The starting running back for Creighton because of injuries to seniors Jorgan Condon and Karter Gragert was freshman Haiden Horstmann. He was able to run behind the excellent blocking both at the line of scrimmage and downfield for 47 yard touchdown run! Two point conversion was also good and at 6:15 in the first quarter it was Ainsworth 14 Creighton 16.
This time following the Creighton kickoff, they were able to hold Ainsworth to four out and forced them to punt.
Creighton used the mixture of running and passing from quarterback Ethan Kuhl, which included a beautiful pass to Ethan Kuhlman, and concluded with a 2 yard touchdown run by Haiden and a two point conversion pass to Calvin Wilmes. With 1:20 left in the first quarter It was Ainsworth 14 Creighton 24.
But this is eight-man football and the scoring sometimes comes quick.
At 11:01 in the second quarter Ainsworth scored on the 1 yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion was no good and the score was Ainsworth 20 Creighton 24.
Again running and passing was used effectively by Creighton during the next drive which included a beautiful 25 yard pass to Calvin Wilmes while in route down the field and ended up with a 20 yard touchdown pass to Ethan Kuhlman. The two point version was no good and at 8:51 in the second quarter it was Ainsworth 20 Creighton 30.
However, on the following kick off by Creighton it was ran back for a touchdown and the two-point conversion was good so at 8:36 left in the first half it was Ainsworth 28 Creighton 30.
After receiving the kick off, Creighton again went on the drive mixing passes and running however we were intercepted to stall that drive Ainsworth mounted a drive of their own and scored from a six yard touchdown run, the two point conversion was no good and at 5:42 left in the first half. It was Ainsworth 34 Creighton 30.
The Ainsworth kickoff was a short one to our up back Owen Doerr who ran it back to the 36 yard line. This time Creighton while running behind huge blocking by the line and up back Ethan Kuhman, marched down the field were able to score on a 7 yard run by Haiden Horstmann 2 Point conversion pass was good to Ethan Kuhman and with 3:12 left in the first half. It was Ainsworth 34 Creighton 36.
After kicking the ball off, the Creighton defense was able to hold Ainsworth to a four and out. Creighton drove the ball down and scored on a 20 yard pass to Ethan Kuhlman the two point conversion pass to Calvin Wilmes was good and with nothing left on the clock at halftime was Ainsworth 34 Creighton 44.
A very hard fact not to be left out was was that during the second quarter Creighton lost starting quarterback, senior Ethan Kuhl to an injury, he did not return for the rest of the game. Ethan was replaced by freshman Dylon Nilson for the rest of the game.
The second half started with Ainsworth kicking the ball. We drove to the 35 yard line unfortunately fumbled the ball and they recovered and returned it for a touchdown. The two-point pass was good and at 10:55 in the third-quarter it was Ainsworth 42 Creighton 44.
Ainsworth again kicked off and Creighton drove the ball down the field scoring on a 21 yard touchdown run by quarterback Dylon Nilson the two point pass was no good.
With 6:37 left in the third quarter. It was Ainsworth 42 Creighton 50.
Following our kick off some tough defense kicked in with Braxton Eggerling having a 6 yard sack. However, as I said, in the beginning Ainsworth has a very good senior quarterback. He was able to scramble and on the next play threw a 23 yard touchdown pass. The two point run was good and with 41 seconds left in the third quarter was Ainsworth 48 Creighton 50.
Ainsworth kicked off and Creighton started at their 15 yard line when Haiden Horstmann once again behind the awesome blocking on the line of scrimmage and down the field busted loose for a 65 yard touchdown run! The 2 point pass to Ethan Kuhlman was good. With 30 seconds left in the third quarter it was Ainsworth 48 Creighton 58.
But hold onto your hats folks we’re heading into a high scoring fourth-quarter.
Creighton kicked off the ball and was returned to the 39 yard line and Ainsworth was able to a few plays later strike on a 37 yard touchdown pass, the two-point run was good. With 11:42 left in the game. It was Ainsworth 56 Creighton 58.
We were able to return the kick off to the 33 yard line of Ainsworth and once again Haiden scored on a 17 yard touchdown run. The two point pass was good. At 9:35 left in the game it was Ainsworth 56 Creighton 66.
We kicked off to Ainsworth. The defense once again held tight with George Burrell recovering a fumble at the 26 yard line. Haiden Horstmann again behind the fantastic blocking, which allowed him to run wild most of the night added a 26 yard touchdown run, the 2 point conversion run was good.
With 8:34 left in the game. It was Ainsworth 56 Creighton 74.
Following the Creighton kick off, Ainsworth was again driving down the field when Haiden Horstmann again contributed, this time on defense with an interception at the 37 yard line. Once again behind that line and the down field blocking Haiden scored on a 43 yard touchdown run, the two point conversion was no good.
With 8:04 left in the game.
It was Ainsworth 56 Creighton 80.
That was the end of the scoring in the game. However it should be noted that the defense ended the game with a fantastic stand, which included two sacks, by one by George Burrell, and one by Braxton Eggerling for 18 yards in total losses.
As I said after the game, this was a night where with two running backs out because of injuries a freshman Haiden Horstmann took over running back duties for the game. Unofficially he rushed for 460 yards on the game. Taking nothing away from Haiden because he is a quick physical and aggressive, running back and he plays the same way on defense.
The offensive line, usally Owen Doerr, Braxton Eggerling, Deric Sayers. The up back, Ethan Kuhlman. And the receivers, usally Coen Horstmann, Calvin Wilmes both on the line of scrimmage and
down field, all night long executed some of the their best blocking of the year!! Allowing Haiden to do the rest of it with his legs and vision as he scooted across the field each play on offense. That same line also allowed the quarterbacks a lot of time to be able to throw accurate passes to the receivers. Doing this as I mentioned earlier against Ainsworth’s line which averaged 240 pounds!!
So it was a fantastic night to be a Creighton Bulldog!!
It should be noted this TEAM played as a TEAM for well earned victory!
I also want to say Congratulations to the 2025 Lewis & Clark Cross Country Champion Connor Rohrer and the rest of the team!!!
Join Sam Morrill, Laurie Owens and myself next week as your Creighton Bulldogs travel to Springview Nebraska to take on North Central.
