Even with the state lifting their burn ban, the Creighton fire district is still not issuing any burn permits. Even though we have received moisture, we are taking precautions to be on the safe side. Thank you for understanding.

The burn ban has been extended until April 10th, at which time it will be reviewed. Please respect this as this is not a local decision, but a decision by the state. We must abide by this. This burn ban includes any bonfires, burning of rubbish, and any type of burning to clear land.

Our thoughts are with those dealing with the current fires as well as those dealing with the aftermath of the recent fires. Please take precautions as this is not just a western Nebraska risk with the widespread drought.

Reminder, all of Nebraska is in a burn ban per Governor Pillen and the State Fire Marshall. This includes, but is not limited to, all bonfires, outdoor rubbish fires and fires for the purpose of clearing land. This burn ban last thru March 27, 2026. At this time, the state will review conditions to see if the burn ban will continue.

Even with the snow/moisture we have received, many parts of the state will be put into red flag warnings starting on Tuesday. As we may have received snow now, the fires may reignite days, even weeks later in the right conditions. Please respect the burn ban as the fire department doesn’t want to deploy resources to extinguish any unpermitted fires.

Creighton currently has 4 fireman helping with the Anderson Bridge Fire west of Valentine. They have been on scene for close to 20 hours helping out. Please keep them and all other fireman workings these fires in your thoughts. Below you will see all open burns are prohibited at this time. Any burn permits that have been issued are considered null and void.

Today, Governor Jim Pillen is issuing a statewide burn ban, to help reduce the potential for additional wildfires in Nebraska. Dry and windy conditions have caused the spread of significant fires in the central and western parts of the state. Earlier today, Gov. Pillen issued an emergency proclamation activating the deployment of state resources to help combat fires, including the use of aircraft and personnel from the Nebraska National Guard.

The Governor’s executive order prohibiting burning will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. on March 27. Included with this release is an update that has been provided by State Fire Marshal Doug Hohbein to all fire chiefs statewide.

A copy of the Governor's executive order will be distributed later this afternoon, once it is countersigned as required, by the Secretary of State.

With the 4th of July celebrations starting, please remember to be safe when lighting fireworks. Always dispose of fireworks properly and do not put them in the trash inside the house. Lighting and disposal away from buildings is important. Have a Happy and Safe 4th of July!

Tonight the Creighton Volunteer Fire Department trained on vehicle extrication. We try to do this often with different scenarios so we can be prepared with whatever the scene may look like. It is also important to do this often and on different vehicles as the extrication process is different on a lot of vehicles.

This week marks EMS Week, so we will be highlighting several different areas this week of what goes into being part of the EMS Service. There are several different areas of EMS that all require different levels of training. On top of the initial training, it takes continuing education to stay up on licenses and to provide the bester services that we can for the community and patients.

Below is the list of initial training hours that our members have put in to become licensed.
Driver - 6 Hours
EMR - 60 Hours
EMT- 157.5 Hours

Last week, members of the Creighton Fire Department deployed for 48 hours as part of the newly created Knox County Task Force. The task force went out to assist with the Plum Creek Fire by Johnstown. They were able to help contain the fire while prepping it for this weekend's winds that were expected out there. This also allowed many of the local departments to take a much-needed break and catch up on sleep, family, and work by having numerous people from all over the state assist.

It was a great opportunity to utilize the skills and knowledge that many learned during the recent Red Card certification and training.

Thanks again to all the members of our department, families, and employers for all the hours put in to help protect this community and area.
