Got a killer Halloween costume idea but not quite sure how to bring it to life?Or maybe a Pinterest board full of wild ideas but no idea where to start? This is your chance! Join local off-beat artist and reigning king of costumes Donovan Williamson for a full day of delightfully spooky experimentation using materials and skills that you can carry with you for every Halloween to come!

Donovan Williamson is an artist shaped by the echoes of the 80s, the rhythm of hip hop, and the memory of past cultures and current pop culture movements. "My work lives where nostalgia meets fantasy and the futuristic, with the occasional touch of apocalyptic." Donovan's talents truly shine around his favorite holiday - HALLOWEEN! He is always determined to create at least one elaborate mask and costume every spooky season, if not five to ten simpler pieces for multiple events and other friends and family.

Due to a scheduling conflict, Critters in Polymer Clay (originally the evening of Friday, August 28) has been postponed! The class is STILL happening and will be a blast. Watch for the new date coming in September!

What an AMAZING few days running our FIRST multi-day camp, with Alisa Allen Nelson , Meg Marino Mayes and Wade Adams- these kiddos made some AMAZING art and we could not be more happy with the results. We are so grateful to all of the kids (16!) who participated and to the Creede Musical Arts Collective for making this all happen the way it did. We are feeling some big feels today! Congratulations everyone!

It's verified- Mike Henry is a FABULOUS teacher!

This past Monday, August 03, he took on thirteen folks new to painting and taught them the basic techniques of watercolor. The results were fantastic- no one would know that this was an Intro class! THANK YOU Mike, and thank you to everyone who participated. We cannot do these classes without your enthusiasm and support!

There is one more opportunity to learn from Mike- next Monday we have our Introduction to Color Theory Workshop. It will be very similar in style, just with a focus on color relationships in watercolor, using Stephen Quiller's method based on thousands of years of color study.

If you've ever looked at a painting and wondered, "How do artists make the colors work so well together?" this class is for you. Designed especially for beginners, this hands-on workshop will take the mystery out of color. You'll learn simple techniques for choosing, mixing, and using colors that create depth, mood, and balance in your paintings—without needing any previous art experience. Through easy exercises and a series of small watercolor paintings, instructor Mike Henry will introduce Stephen Quiller's approachable color system and guide you step by step as you build confidence. Along the way, you'll discover how colors interact, how light and dark values create dimension, and how to make your paintings feel more vibrant and expressive. No drawing or painting background is required. This class is the perfect next step after Introduction to Watercolor, but anyone who wants to better understand color is welcome. Come ready to experiment, have fun, and discover that learning color can be much easier than you think.

NEXT WEEK!

Our very FIRST kids camp, "Sounds of Art", starts on August 11.

In partnership with the Creede Musical Arts Collective, we are thrilled to welcome Oklahoma-based artist Alisa Nelson for this 3-day camp. Inspired by the groundbreaking artist Wassily Kandinsky, this dynamic camp will explore collage, texture, and the concept of synesthesia—the blending of senses—by connecting music and visual art. Through guided experimentation, students will discover how sound, color, and movement can come together to create art.

Each day, participants will work on a visual art project, learn about instruments and their sounds, take an exploratory walk to discover Creede arts, and cap the day off with a project that combines visual art AND music.

Led by two professionals in their fields, Alisa Nelson and Megan Marino know their mediums inside and out. We are fortunate to have them both sharing their talents with the Creede Community!

When: August 11-13 (9am-noon daily)

Last night's figure drawing class was electric! THANK YOU Suzanne Reed Fine for excellent guidance and instruction, and Wade Adams for a fantastic job modeling. The students in this class absolutely ROCKED IT! We are so impressed by the talent in this room and cannot wait for the next one. There is nothing like drawing from life!

The next few weeks will be packed full of art classes!
