✨Your Tax Dollars Hard at Work✨

Did you know your local tax dollars help to support almost every single Keep Florida Beautiful affiliate?
Those dollars fund: litter cleanup events, recycling events, native plantings, and local environmental education initiatives.
Last year, affiliates were able to remove 2,057,251 lbs of litter 🗑️from Pensacola down to Key West. They provided 92,443 native plants 🌼through giveaways and beautification projects, cleaned 5,479 miles of shoreline🌊, and 55,397 miles of roadway🚗.

For many communities this impact wouldn't be possible without the funding allocated from local property taxes.

♻️ HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE AMNESTY UPDATE! ♻️

We’ve received an overwhelming number of inquiries asking when our next Household Hazardous Waste Amnesty Day will take place, so we wanted to share an update!

📅 WHEN IS THE NEXT EVENT?

For the past several years, Wakulla County has hosted one Household Hazardous Waste Amnesty event annually, typically in the spring.

We know there is a need for more frequent collection opportunities, and KWCB is working with Wakulla County in hopes of expanding this service in the future.

We’re targeting April 2027 for our next event. However, the hazardous waste collection company has not yet opened its scheduling calendar that far in advance. As soon as we have a confirmed date, we’ll share it!

🎨 LET’S TALK ABOUT PAINT!

By far, one of our most frequently asked questions is about disposing of leftover paint.

🚫 LATEX PAINT IS NOT ACCEPTED at our Household Hazardous Waste Amnesty events.

Although latex paint can be messy to dispose of, it is not classified as hazardous waste and can generally be disposed of with regular household trash once completely dried out.

✅ Here’s how:

1. Remove the lid and allow the paint to dry.
2. Add kitty litter or shredded newspaper to help absorb the paint and speed up drying.
3. Once the paint is completely solid, dispose of it with your regular household trash, following your hauler’s requirements.

⚠️ Important: Oil-based paints, stains, and other potentially hazardous products require different disposal methods. Please don’t place these in regular household trash.

Another busy weekend for KWCB. Having some fun painting, spreading our mission at the nonprofit resource event, and keeping unused items out of the landfill at the Hand Me Down Get Down.

Thanks to Smoke N Tow Bbq for coming Saturday to Palaver Tree Theater to have great food for visitors and volunteers. Keep it beautiful!🌻🌺🌳🌲♻️

Get ready for KWCB’s Hand Me Down Get Down, a community swap event where we’re giving good stuff a second life and having some fun while we do it!

📅 Saturday, October 3
⏰ 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
📍 Palaver Tree Theater, Shadeville Road, Crawfordville

Start cleaning out those closets, garages, toy boxes, bookshelves and cabinets! Individuals, families, neighborhoods, churches, clubs and other groups are encouraged to start gathering gently used or new items that someone else could put to good use.

🪴 Plants & garden items
🎨 Crafts, décor and more!

Bring what you don’t use. Take what you’ll love.

There is NO buying or selling of swap items. Bring usable items to share, swap or simply give away, and take home something you can use. You don’t have to bring something to take something. The whole idea is to connect unwanted items with someone who needs or wants them instead of sending perfectly good stuff to the landfill.

And because you can’t have a Get Down without good food and music, Smoke n Tow BBQ will be on hand serving up some great food!

This isn’t a yard sale. It isn’t a flea market. It’s a money-free community exchange with a purpose.

💚 Less landfill. More love. And a whole lotta get down!
