From March through June, our department responded to five significant wildland fires — Ashby, Morrill, Ashpole, Southfork, and Log Road — along with countless smaller wildland fires and mutual aid calls. We also had countless EMS calls and assisted with the evacuation of our local Nursing Home which was very smooth and was not a burden on the residents. The department also had several stand - by events with rodeos and many other local events. The department also has many events coming up with the Vietnam Wall and a local bull riding event that our volunteer help will be staffing plus many more events.
In addition to emergency response, our department continued to meet monthly, train regularly, and stay prepared for the next call.
Fire response is only one part of what our department does. While crews are committed to each incident, we also work to keep resources available for medical calls, car accidents, structure fires, mutual aid, and any other emergencies that may happen next.
We are incredibly proud of our volunteers and grateful for the community members, families, employers, and mutual aid partners who continue to support them. Crawford Fire Station has been the hub for these big fires and has been staffed by people from all levels and support we can't say enough about how the community and surrounding area will and does come together to make things work.
Crawford has also had visits from every level of government Governor and Senators through these fires and hopes that the listening ear and seeing first hand how things work with the Federal partners stepping in right beside the State Government and giving everything they have available with out question to help, also Thank You to the State of Nebraska and Resources across the State for dropping everything to help. Area fire departments had the opportunity to participate in a roundtable with Senator Ricketts today at the Crawford Community Building. Fire leadership spoke candidly with him about the challenges they face, as well as the successes they've achieved despite those difficulties. Thank you for your support, .
