The program for the Oglethorpe County Rotary Club featured Corie Robinson, the Oglethorpe County Senior Center Director. Her presentation focused on the the mission of the center is “to empower adults 60 and over for personal independence, healthy aging, social connection, and life long learning. She also noted that the center could always use help in the form of volunteers, monetary donations, items that could be used as prizes for games, personal care or household use.

Oglethorpe Rotary Club and the Oglethorpe County High School Interact Club participated in the Community Day. Both clubs gave out shampoo to help families beginning or returning to school.

When you know the theme for Rotary this year is "Create an Impact" you can understand why the Interact Club members volunteered to help set up and then clean up after the event.

A "Well Done" to these members of Rotary and Interact.

Our Rotary Meeting tomorrow, May 8th will feature Dr. Phillip Powell, the new Oglethorpe County Superintendent. Come join us, whether you are a member or not, to hear his vision for the future of the Oglethorpe County School System. The meeting will take place at the Farm Bureau at 7:30 am.

On March 18, the Oglethorpe County High School Interact Club along with National Honor Society members participated in the Georgia Department of Education Statewide Day of Service initiative by volunteering at the Rotary Peace Garden in Maxeys.

Under the coordination of Oglethorpe County Rotary member Jean Westmacott, eight student volunteers worked to improve the community garden grounds located along the Firefly Trail. Their efforts focused on general landscaping maintenance and the installation of stone pavers to enhance the garden’s walkway.
The Rotary Peace Garden is a community project sponsored by the Oglethorpe County Rotary Club.

This service project highlights Interact and Rotary Club's ongoing commitment to local stewardship and the Rotary mission of "Service Above Self."

We had an amazing program last week from Sallie Starrett with Brightpaths.

Brightpaths (formerly Prevent Child Abuse Athens) is a non-profit social services organization in Athens, Georgia, that works to prevent child abuse and neglect by strengthening families in Athens-Clarke and surrounding counties, including Oglethorpe County.

They offer programs like Healthy Families (home visits for new parents) and First Steps (parenting support and resources), along with parenting classes, community education, and free counseling, all aimed at building stronger family relationships and promoting child well-being.
