After much thought and prayerful reflection, I have decided that I will not be seeking election to the office of Imperial Outer Guard at next year’s Imperial Session in Tampa, Florida.

The feedback that I have received from Nobles across the world has been overwhelmingly positive. I am deeply humbled by the amazing support from my brothers here in Rhode Island, throughout the Northeast Shrine Association and the encouragement I have received from my Grand Master and his Grand Line. This Summer, however, has also been a time of reflection and realignment of priorities.

First and foremost, Lady Suzanne’s health has declined since returning from the Imperial Session in Atlanta, Georgia earlier this Summer. Our family’s focus in recent weeks is on helping her regain quality of life and navigating what her “new normal” will look like in the face of ongoing health challenges. At the same time, my family and I remain deeply committed to service, especially at this stage of life, when our obligations to one another and to the Craft and Shrine must be held in proper balance. I have also been presented with new professional opportunities, but it is clear to me that my energy at this time is best devoted to my family and to my temple and the Nobility who have entrusted me with leadership.

This decision does not close the door on a future run — it simply means that now is not the right time. In the coming year, my focus will remain on Suzanne’s health, supporting my son as he advances in just two weeks as Deputy State Master Councilor of Rhode Island DeMolay, and continuing to serve Rhode Island Shriners with all of the energy and devotion that I can give.
With the encouragement of the Nobility, the support of my Divan and the continued guidance of my Grand Master, it is my intention to run for re-election as Potentate of Rhode Island Shriners later this year. I look forward to enjoying an extraordinary term with my original Northeast Shrine Association Divan Class and to supporting my 2026 counterpart at Aleppo Shrine as we prepare for the 2026 NSA Fall Festival in Hyannis, Massachusetts.

May God bless all of the Nobles of Rhode Island Shriners, every Noble within Shriners International and most especially, the children that we are privileged to serve through the world’s greatest philanthropy.

One big, beautiful Masonic family full of representation from the Nobles of Rhode Island Shriners, Rhode Island DeMolay, Rhode Island Grand Assembly Rainbow and Rhode Island Order of the Eastern Star.

Plus, we met Marilou. She was a surgical patient at Shriners Hospitals for Children - Canada for her scoliosis only three months ago. Today, she visited Rhode Island to march with her school’s band in the Bristol Fourth of July Celebration, the oldest continuous American Independence Day parade.

Congratulations to Imperial Sir Scott Schuster, the next Imperial Treasurer. I appreciate all of the support that I received from the Nobles across the world that voted for me. I offer my unwavering support to Scott, wish him well in the term ahead and ask our Nobility of Shriners International to do the same.

Today Is the Day – I Humbly Ask for Your Support

Dear Esteemed 2025 Imperial Session Delegates,

I want to take a moment to thank each of you for your conversations, encouragement and fellowship over these past few weeks and especially during our time thus far in Atlanta. It has been an honor to share my vision with so many of you. Now, as we prepare to cast our votes, I respectfully ask for your support in electing me as your next Imperial Treasurer.

My professional career has been dedicated to association leadership and organizational sustainability. For over a decade, I have served as the Executive Director/CEO of a state-based network of hospice and home healthcare providers and now as an Executive Vice President of a national association management company. I specialize in governance, budgeting and strategic planning—skills that translate directly to the responsibilities of the Imperial Treasurer. I bring both professional competence and a heart for service. This service has benefited dozen of nonprofit organizations by adding a wealth of resources and investing funds to ensure a stronger future financially and organizationally.

I made the decision to run for Imperial Treasurer after much reflection on my time rebuilding Rhode Island Shriners, working with our Divan and Nobility to reestablish a foundation of trust, growth and relevance. That renewed direction, paired with encouragement from Nobles across Shriners International, affirmed my belief that I am ready to contribute to our fraternity at the Imperial level.

For me, this journey is deeply personal as well. My father-in-law was a “Shrine Child”, spending most of his childhood at our Springfield, Massachusetts hospital. As a polio survivor, he ensured 18 surgeries with follow-up treatments throughout his childhood. I am in debt to the work of Shriners Children’s because without their care in the 1940’s and 1950’s, my family would not be here.

Today is the day. I am ready to serve you—with experience, passion and dedication. Lady Suzanne and I are grateful to be here with all of you and appreciate the support you have shown throughout this journey. Let’s end this month of uncertainty with a path toward a stronger financial future for our fraternity. I kindly ask for your support this afternoon.

With fraternal affection and gratitude,
Nicholas

As we prepare to gather for the 2025 Imperial Session in Atlanta, I want to take a moment to wish each of you safe and smooth travels. This annual gathering is a time for reflection, connection and celebration of all that unites us in Shrinedom—and I look forward to being part of it with you.

Lady Suzanne and I are excited to reconnect with so many of you. We are also looking forward to interacting with Nobles and Ladies that we have not had the pleasure yet to meet. Whether before the sessions, in one of the hospitality rooms, during the parade or just passing in the halls, please do not hesitate to introduce yourself. Suzanne and I will do our best to do the same.

Thank you for your continued support, encouragement and dedication to our beloved fraternity. The energy and commitment of our Nobility and the support from our Ladies continues to inspire Suzanne and I. We are grateful for the opportunity to be part of this special event and to spend this next week with all of you.

Let’s make this year’s Imperial Session one to remember. May we take this opportunity to create a stronger financial future for Shriners International together.

I am honored to share that I am the first Potentate of Rhode Island Shriners to have a local Patient Ambassador—and what an incredible ambassador that she has been thus far this year!

Meet Tessa – a bright, joyful and charismatic 9 year old who just finished the Second Grade. Born with arthrogryposis, a condition that causes joint stiffness and limits movement, Tessa has never let anything hold her back. She has undergone multiple orthopedic surgeries and treatments at several Shriners Children’s hospitals and clinics and continues to inspire everyone around her with her strength, courage and infectious smile.

Tessa loves all things Disney, tells the best jokes and has a great group of friends both at school and in her neighborhood. She thinks that it is funny to call me “Sir Nich” and always keeps me laughing!

She and her amazing mom, Sheri, embody the very spirit of what we want from our great philanthropy: hope, healing and resilience. Lady Suzanne and I are so proud to have Tessa representing our Rhode Island Shriners family and showing the world what is possible when you lead with heart.

If blessed to have the confidence of the Nobility to become the next Imperial Treasurer, I will keep Tessa, Sheri and all Nobles in mind in every discussion, decision and vote that I make.

As a professional with deep experience in nonprofit finance and management, I have spent my career not only managing budgets, protecting assets, exceeding revenue generation goals and elevating investments—but also educating others along the way.

Whether in the boardroom or at the podium, I believe in making financial information clear, practical and approachable—especially for those without a financial background.

🔹 Proven leadership in financial stewardship
🔹 Skilled at breaking down complex information into bite-sized, meaningful insights
🔹 Trusted educator and communicator across all levels
🔹 Passionate about helping Nobles understand the “why” behind the numbers — especially when controversial items such as membership dues increases are proposed

As your next Imperial Treasurer, I will bring the same clarity, accountability and transparency to our great fraternity’s financial future.

Let’s move forward—together, informed and united!

🗳️ I would be honored to have your support.

Today, Lady Suzanne and I led a delegation from Rhode Island Shriners to visit Shriners Children’s New England in Springfield, Massachusetts. This facility, albeit the previous building, is where Suzanne’s father received post-polio care throughout his childhood. Giving back to Springfield brings our family’s story full circle. By strategic investments in the Shriners of Rhode Island Charities Trust and encouraging every unit within Rhode Island Shriners to participate, we donated over $100,000 to Springfield to support its 100th anniversary gala later this year. Under my leadership, we have taken over $400,000 from earnings within our strategic investments year-to-date and donated to Shriners Children’s in Springfield, Boston and systemwide.

America may run on Dunkin’, but I prefer to run on Cumby’s…except for today. Get your iced coffee and support local children’s hospitals across the country. I support Shriners Children’s New England in honor of my father-in-law. Without their care, Lady Suzanne may not be here. My father-in-law, Maurice, spent most of his adolescence at the original Springfield, Massachusetts hospital receiving surgeries and therapy due to the debilitating effects of polio. He has a full life, created a family, had a great career in systems support for a regional bank and is enjoying retirement, which included commercial fishing as a hobby. Suzanne and I continue to give back as a way to express our appreciation in honor of “Moe”.
