Hello Rhode Island Mineral Hunters! Here is a look at the Halloween party costume contest during our October meeting! Thank you to everybody that participated! The winner was our friend in the blow-up chicken costume! They received a beautiful quartz specimen, donated by Apple Valley Minerals.
During the meeting, our webmaster Kelly educated the club on unique geological formations on other planets. He referenced the famous “Face on Mars”, and talked about the “poppy seeds” and “leopard spots” that have been found in the rocks on Mars, that all have detectable biosignatures! He discussed the hallows on Mercury, and also showed examples of Widmanstätten patterns in meteorites. One might say that Kelly’s presentation was OUT OF THIS WORLD!
