The Career Closet provides career dressing services to low-income women at no charge. Union County women are referred by community agencies after they have successfully completed job training and/or readiness programs. By providing professional clothing and interviewing skills, the League hopes to increase the self-confidence, self-esteem, and ultimately, the self-sufficiency of women who are stru
ggling financially or receiving public assistance. Each client referred to the program meets one-on-one with a trained Junior League volunteer at an appointed time. Together, the client and volunteer select, from the Career Closet inventory, appropriate business attire for interviewing purposes. The client is suited from head to toe, including accessories and shoes. To further assist the client in becoming competitive in the job market, we offer additional services by appointment, including outlining proper etiquette, resume writing tips, interviewing techniques, communication and time management skills. While some of the Career Closet’s offerings are purchased by the Junior League, most are donated by League members and other individuals throughout Union and neighboring counties. The Career Closet also receives clothing directly from retailers and manufacturers and accepts cash donations from corporations, foundations, and individuals. The Career Closet encourages concerned individuals to consider donating gently used career clothing and accessories. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
