Back to School Discussion:
Don't forget to mention bullying

An important but often overlooked part of "back to school" discussions should incorporate speaking about bullying. Discuss with your child or students how they treat others and how they are treated by peers, both off and on school grounds, including their cell phones and computer. It is essential to discuss internet etiquette. Recent research found that more than 90% of kids were already online playing interactive games by age 8. Most kids enjoy using computers to study, play games and communicate with peeers. There are rules of behavior for computer use, just like for anything else. A good rule of thumb is don't write anything to seomeone in a text or online unless you you would say it to their face. Start discussing online issues and etiquette when kids are young.
