HIGH (4/5) and CONSIDERABLE (3/5) avalanche danger forecasted for the Park Range through the weekend.

Observers have found a variety of weak layers down about one to two feet buried in early February. These were either surface hoar, near-surface facets, or crust facet combinations. With more snow and wind, a cohesive slab is forming which increases the danger of avalanches stepping down to the buried weak layers. You could trigger an avalanche from a distance or below. Surface hoar avalanches can run on surprisingly low-angle slopes, connecting widely around terrain features. So, give yourself an extra margin of safety around steep slopes.

Dont forget to check the Colorado Avalanche Information Center - CAIC and .

An Avalanche Warning is in effect for the southeast Front Range, Pikes Peak, Mosquito Range, Monarch Pass, and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Expect very dangerous avalanche conditions from Saturday morning through Sunday evening. You can very easily trigger avalanches large enough to bury you and many will release spontaneously. Some may break on deeply buried weak layers. Travel in backcountry avalanche terrain is not recommended.

A potent winter storm will impact nearly all of Colorado Friday night through Sunday. The headline is that dangerous avalanche conditions will develop across all the mountains of Colorado.
