Citizens for Balanced Development (CBD) was formed in reaction to a proposal for a new Super Walmart Store that was to be built on a narrow two lane road surrounded by residents, subdivisions, and historic live oak trees. The property is filled with wetlands and located on a curve. Hundreds of local residents and environmental organizations submitted comments when the US Army Corps of Engineers pu

blic noticed the owners' application for a wetlands permit. When the landowners contested the zoning of a ten acre parcel, they took the Parish Government to court and CBD joined the lawsuit. The district court found in favor of the residents and parish; the Appeals Court, on a 3-2 decision, found in favor of the landowners; CBD is now challenging that ruling with the Louisiana Supreme Court. There are 2+ Million Square Feet of Retail Development within 1/2 mile of this proposed site, including a Sam's Warehouse. And Brewster Road is not constructed for truck traffic; in fact, it is posted as a No Truck Route! Please help us stop this development that will destroy wetlands, live oak trees, and the quality of life these residents currently enjoy!
