We are a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing services for the family and patient of pediatric cancer in Washington while going through the treatment process. Footprints of Fight is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that is dedicated to providing services for the family and patient of pediatric cancer in Washington while going through the treatment process. These services will

reduce the family's stress of everyday life through which increased levels of courage, optimism, strength, and resiliency will form to help the family conquer cancer in present and future. Childhood cancer occurs regularly, randomly, and spares no ethnic group, socioeconomic class, or geographic region. Many children with cancer are treated with radiation, chemotherapy, surgery, and/or bone marrow transplantation. These procedures and the numerous side effects of treatment impact the quality of life not only for the child with cancer, but also for the entire family. Our organization believes it is critical to consider the child with cancer within the context of the family as family members’ reactions to pediatric cancer often move along a continuum of post-traumatic stress symptoms that range from normative, acute stress reactions to longer-term, impairing reactions. In some cases, family members’ psychological distress can be as severe as that of the patient. Every day throughout the world, 720 new kids are affected by cancer and 250 kids die of cancer. In Washington, 300 families are diagnosed with pediatric cancer annually in which the treatment ranges from 3 months to 3 years. Currently, only two non-profit organizations provide services to the family of pediatric cancer while going through the treatment process. As these two non-profit organizations provide these services while the family is away from their home, Footprints of Fight will solely focus on providing services to the families while they are at home trying to figure out how they will endure this journey by themselves. We were one of these families after our 4 year old son, Mason Jon Nettleton was diagnosed with a rare form of pediatric cancer on August 16, 2014. After receiving world-class care from Seattle Children's Hospital, we realized that the real journey began once we left the hospital as we had to figure out how we would navigate as a family throughout the treatment process. As the journey has been very challenging we have been blessed with a strong support system along the way. In turn, we want to provide this same support to other families in Washington by providing some of the same services we received during the treatment process that helped us rally together as a family and continue through the journey with courage, optimism, strength, and resiliency.

We are honored to introduce Miles!

"Miles is a resilient and spirited 9-year-old boy bravely fighting
medulloblastoma. Known for his big heart and even bigger personality, Miles is the kind of kid who lights up every room he enters. He has a deep love for sports—especially football, basketball, and soccer—and proudly cheers for the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Lakers. When he’s not watching or playing sports, Miles enjoys building Lego alongside his brother, trading Pokémon cards, and watching his favorite Pokémon shows. Before his diagnoses, he loved being active and involved at school, especially in wood shop, chess club, choir, math, and any PE or sports-related classes. Miles is one of six siblings and is truly his mom’s “main man.” During his three-month hospital stay, his absence was deeply felt at home, as he is known for being a big helper and someone his family can always count on—the unofficial caretaker of the household, and quite possibly the main reason the family pets are still alive and well. His siblings have stepped up in his place, but there’s no replacing Miles’ warmth, affection, and the special energy he brings to his family.

He is an incredibly loving, strong, and determined young boy who continues to inspire everyone around him with his courage."

CHIEF PADILLA PRESENTS 25 YEAR LONGEVITY PLAQUE TO CEU COORDINATOR STACY JUDD

You may recognize today’s longevity plaque recipient, Community Education Unit Coordinator Stacy Judd. She has been responsible for coordinating educational events in Kent for the Police Department for a long time.

Has your son or daughter participated in the Kent Police Youth Board and/or participated in the yearly Game of Life? How about the Kent Police Teen Academy?

Has your neighborhood organized a National Night Out event?

Have you attended our Community Police Academy, Block Watch 101, or a Coffee with the Chief?

Have you visited the Kent PD tent at Corn days, gone to the Christmas Battle of the Badges-Holiday Lights Renton Police Department, WA, (We won this year!), attended the Easter Egg Hunt at Kent Station or signed your loved one up for our Take Me Home Program? Then you met or talked to Stacy.

She’s had a hand in coordinating, planning, and sometimes was the inspiration behind, multiple Kent PD outreach educational programs that have impacted our community for over two decades.

We know many of you have participated in the CEU events that Stacy and her unit have facilitated over the years. If you have a great story, please share it in the comments.

Thanx Stacy for 25 great years of serving Kent!

We are honored to introduce Lucia!

"Lucia is a baby who was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma at just 3 months old. Since then, she has shown incredible strength through every step of her journey. She continues to smile and laugh throughout her journey with cancer.

She has already gone through four rounds of chemotherapy and a major liver surgery, and she continues to fight with a resilience that inspires everyone around her. She is currently receiving treatment at Seattle Children’s Hospital where her care team is helping guide her through the next steps of treatment.

At home, she is loved fiercely by her mom, dad, and big brother Diego, who adores her and is the best big brother."
