We are proud to announce that the Washington Street Community Center Discovery Lab After School Program has officially reached capacity! 🎉

We are incredibly grateful for the trust families have placed in WSCC. Reaching our enrollment goal reflects the growing need for a safe, engaging, and enriching place where children can learn, explore, and grow after school.

📣 Our Waiting List Is Now Open
Although we are currently full, families are encouraged to join our waiting list. Openings may become available as schedules change throughout the school year.

🚗✨ WHO ARE THE PEOPLE IN OUR WSCC NEIGHBORHOOD? ✨🚗

This week, we’re celebrating Matt Crowe of Covington Ford, a true friend of WSCC!

Matt generously allowed us to host our Casino Night Fundraiser at his dealership, and his support truly kept our fundraisers ROLLIN’. When people open their doors to help our kids, it drives real impact for the children and families we serve.

We are grateful for Matt’s kindness, generosity, and willingness to help WSCC move our mission forward. Some people just help out, but Matt helped put our fundraiser in park, hit the gas on support, and keep us headed in the right direction. 💙

WE’RE MAKING PROGRESS, NEWTON COUNTY. ❤️

Thanks to the generosity of our community, Washington Street Community Center has already raised $30,000 toward our $100,000 goal to help keep our after-school program open.

That means we are 30% of the way there.

But we still have $70,000 to raise by October 31.

Every gift is helping protect a safe, supportive place where children can learn, grow, receive academic support, participate in enrichment activities, and spend their after-school hours in a positive environment.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has already donated, shared our story, made an introduction, or connected us with a potential partner.

Now we need your help to keep the momentum going.

Meet Destiny Bryant, President of the Washington Street Community Center Board of Directors. 💙

Judge Bryant serves as Associate Probate and Magistrate Judge in Newton County. Before taking the bench, she spent more than seven years as a prosecutor, including work involving the abuse of women and children. Her commitment to community service also includes mentoring and involvement with several local organizations.

At WSCC, Destiny brings that same commitment to service, fairness, children, and community leadership.

Strong organizations need people willing to lead, but strong communities need people willing to stand beside them.

Dr. Melvin Baker, Board Treasurer

Meet Dr. Melvin Baker, Treasurer of the Washington Street Community Center Board of Directors. 💙

For Dr. Baker, Washington Street is personal. He began his own education at Washington Street School before continuing his education and eventually becoming a dentist. After serving as a Naval officer, he returned home to Covington and practiced dentistry for 38 years.

Even more remarkable, Dr. Baker has served Washington Street Community Center for more than 25 years, along with service to numerous other community organizations.

He represents something special about WSCC: generations giving back to the community that helped shape them.

Dr. John Vince Eagan, Board Member

Meet Dr. John Vince Eagan, a proud member of the Washington Street Community Center Board of Directors. 💙

Dr. Eagan is an Associate Professor of Business at Morehouse College, where he teaches business law, taxation, and economics. He also founded the Frederick Douglass Tutorial Center at Morehouse, reflecting his longstanding commitment to education and youth development.

His community service has included leadership with several Newton County organizations, youth coaching, public policy work, and efforts focused on education, economic development, and stronger communities.

WSCC is stronger because community leaders choose to invest their experience where it matters.

Meet Brian Green, a proud member of the Washington Street Community Center Board of Directors. 💙

Brian is a Covington native and an accomplished communications and public affairs leader. He currently serves as Director of Federal Legislative Affairs for Georgia Power and has held leadership positions in branding, communications, community development, corporate strategy, and public affairs.

Brian brings to WSCC something every nonprofit needs: the ability to build relationships, communicate a compelling story, and connect people around a common purpose.

He is also a graduate of Georgia State University and LEAD Atlanta and serves his community through several affiliations.

Keith is an experienced operations leader with more than 20 years of expertise in quality, supply chain, process improvement, and organizational performance. Throughout his career, he has led teams and helped organizations become stronger, more efficient, and more effective.

But his investment in community is just as important.

A lifelong Covington resident, Keith has served organizations including the Miracle League and Newton Recreation, contributing his leadership to programs that enrich lives and strengthen community engagement.

Now he's bringing that experience to WSCC.

A Covington native and education leader, Nick currently serves as Learning and Leadership Coordinator for Newton County Schools. His career has included service as a teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal, student services coordinator, and district leader.

Nick has also been recognized for leadership in education and remains deeply involved in mentoring youth and developing future leaders throughout the community.

His reason for serving WSCC fits perfectly with our mission: turning a passion for children into meaningful community impact.

Meet Mrs. Louise Adams, a proud member of the Washington Street Community Center Board of Directors. 💙

Mrs. Adams has devoted a lifetime to education, literacy, children, and community service. Her career included service as a teacher, reading specialist, assistant principal, and principal. She was also recognized for her contributions to education, including being named Newton County Association of Educators' Educator of the Year and later becoming a Teacher of the Year finalist.

Her service did not end when she left the classroom. Mrs. Adams has contributed her time and leadership to numerous Newton County civic and community organizations.

She represents the kind of lifelong commitment to children that WSCC was built upon.
