LET’S HELP MAKE LIZZY’S ROOM HOME. 💛🌱

Little by little, The Petty Place is becoming more than a finished house.

It’s becoming home.

And this is Lizzy’s room. 🏡💛

We’ve launched our Adopt a Room for Lizzy campaign to help furnish and prepare her space with the things she’ll need as she begins this next chapter.

We have an Amazon Wish List started for her room, and it will remain a running list as needs are identified and additional items are added.

You don’t have to furnish an entire room to make a difference.

A pillow.
Bedding.
A lamp.
Storage.
Something small that helps turn four walls into her own space.

Every item purchased brings us one step closer to having this home completely ready for the people who will live here.

When Lizzy walks into this room and realizes “this is mine”…pieces of it will be there because her community showed up for her. 💛

For us, this is not political. It is personal.

When a child or adult with autism goes missing, families do not have the luxury of waiting for systems to catch up to the urgency of the moment.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has announced the development of the first National Autism Missing and Endangered Person Alert initiative, in partnership with the Department of Justice and FEMA.

Its purpose is to strengthen coordination among law enforcement, first responders, emergency managers, and community partners—and improve how existing missing-and-endangered alert systems are used when an autistic individual goes missing.

According to HHS, approximately half of autistic children wander or elope at some point. For families who have lived through it, that is not simply a statistic.

We have experienced firsthand how quickly a missing-person situation involving an autistic individual can become a crisis. We know the fear of every passing minute—and how critical it is for responders to understand communication differences, sensory needs, nearby water or traffic hazards, and how to approach someone safely.

This initiative is still being developed, and its success will depend upon adoption and implementation at the state and local levels. There is work ahead, but this is a meaningful and long-overdue step toward a faster, more coordinated, autism-informed response.

Every person deserves to be searched for with urgency, approached with understanding, and brought home safely.

And every family deserves to know that when the unthinkable happens, the people responding are prepared.

This. This is what the vision looks like in real life. 🌱

The young woman standing behind this table will soon call The Petty Place home.

Today, our Kayleigh is standing beneath the banner for her very own bracelet business, Wear Your Word by Kayleigh sharing something she created, meeting customers, and learning what it means to be an entrepreneur.

And she was shining.

Not because someone handed her a purpose. Her gifts, creativity, and potential were already there. What she needed and what so many individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities need is the right support, meaningful opportunities, and people willing to believe in what is possible.

That is why The Petty Place has never been about simply giving someone a place to stay.

We are creating a place where individuals can feel safe enough to grow, supported enough to try, connected enough to belong, and encouraged enough to discover what makes them come alive.

A home where life skills are developed, friendships are nurtured, creativity is celebrated, purpose is discovered, and meaningful work can become part of everyday life.

Because when individuals are supported properly, they do not simply live.

They thrive.
They contribute.
They create.
They connect.
They shine.

The Petty Place may be our first home, but the vision reaches much farther: residential opportunities, meaningful work, genuine connection, continued growth, and long-term security for adults with IDD and DD.

We are not trying to create their worth. God already did that.

We are working to create the kind of environment where the rest of the world gets to see it.

This is bigger than a house.

We have shown you the new floors.
The bedrooms.
The bathrooms.
The kitchen.

We’ve asked you to help us furnish rooms, stock cabinets and finish making The Petty Place a home.

But we haven’t talked nearly enough about why we’re doing this.

In Georgia today, 1,217 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have been identified as being in urgent need of NOW/COMP waiver services because of circumstances that can include institutionalization, homelessness, medical crisis or the loss of a primary caregiver.

Georgia funded 100 new waivers in its FY2027 budget.

One hundred.

Behind numbers like those are real people.

And we know that because some of those stories look painfully familiar to us.

We know what behavioral crises can look like.

We know what repeated crisis stabilization can look like.

We know what happens when the right placement doesn’t exist.

We know the fear of wondering where someone you love is going to live — and whether they will be safe there.

We know what it is like to trust systems and providers with someone you love.

And we know how devastating it can be when that trust is broken.

Kayleigh, Lizzie, and newly added Tristan are not statistics to us.

They are part of the reason A Mustard Seed Outreach exists.

The Petty Place will not solve Georgia’s housing crisis.

But it is one house.

One home in an ordinary neighborhood.

One opportunity for people who need support to have greater independence, stability, dignity, safety and belonging.

And if God allows this little mustard seed to grow, we don’t want it to stop with one house.

That’s the vision.

Not institutions.

Not hospitals because there is nowhere else to go.

Not jail because a person in crisis needed support instead of a cell.

Not families lying awake wondering what will happen when they are no longer able to provide care.

Homes. Community. Support. Belonging.

That’s why we’re building.

And that’s why finishing The Petty Place matters so much. 🌱

LOCAL BUSINESSES — WE’D LOVE TO PARTNER WITH YOU. 🌱

The Petty Place is entering its next chapter, and some of the most important needs ahead aren’t things that can be placed on a traditional wish list.

They’re relationships.

We’re looking for local businesses and community partners who may be willing to help us care for this home for the long haul.

HVAC. Pest control. Lawn care and landscaping. Roofing. Plumbing. Electrical. Appliance repair. General home maintenance.

Maybe your business could donate a service.

Maybe you could sponsor a project or an ongoing need.

Maybe you could donate something that helps make this house a home.

Maybe you know another business owner who would love what The Petty Place is about.

You don’t have to take care of everything. You can simply take care of something.

The house is almost finished. Now we make it home. 🌱🏡

For months, so much of the story of The Petty Place has been about construction.

Walls. Flooring. Bathrooms. Cabinets. Paint. Repairs. One project after another.

And because of some incredibly generous people, businesses and community partners, so many of those needs have been met.

But now we’re entering a different chapter.

Because a finished house and a home aren’t quite the same thing.

A home needs the little things that make everyday life work. It needs comfortable spaces to gather. Bedrooms that feel personal. A kitchen ready for everyday meals. Places outside to sit, laugh, visit and enjoy a beautiful afternoon.

And most importantly, it needs to reflect the people who will call it home.

Over the coming days, we’re going to start sharing some of the specific things still needed at The Petty Place…and some pretty simple ways you can be part of finishing this story with us.

Some opportunities will be small.

Some will be perfect for a family, Sunday School class, civic group or workplace.

And some may be an opportunity for a local business or corporate partner to step in and say, “We can take care of that.”

You don’t have to furnish an entire house to make a difference.

You just have to help with one piece of home. 💛

We’re almost there.

And we would love for our community to help us bring it home.

Sometimes you have to stop and look at how far you’ve come. 💛

There were days when The Petty Place was dust, demolition, decisions, and a whole lot of “what do we tackle next?”

And now there are rooms like this.

Finished. Beautiful. Accessible. Ready to become part of someone’s everyday life.

Yesterday we showed you a glimpse of what will soon become Kayleigh’s space. Tonight, we simply wanted to show you what this community has already helped make possible.

Because The Petty Place didn’t get here because of one person.

It has taken people giving their time. Their skills. Materials. Money. Encouragement. Labor. Connections. And sometimes just showing up and saying, “What can I do?”

We’re getting so close.

And as construction winds down, our focus is shifting from finishing a house to creating a home.

There are still things to furnish, spaces to complete, outdoor areas we’d love to create, and everyday needs to fill—and over the next several days we’ll begin sharing some very specific ways individuals, families, organizations and businesses can be part of it.

But tonight?

We just want to say look how far this little mustard seed has grown. 🌱

And thank you to everyone who has helped it grow.

The future is beginning to take shape upstairs at The Petty Place.

This space will soon become Kayleigh’s—a place designed to offer greater independence while keeping support, safety and community close.

And she is only one piece of a much bigger vision.

As The Petty Place moves closer to welcoming its residents, we’re entering another important stage: turning a completed house into a home.

Bedrooms need to be furnished. The kitchen needs to be stocked. Bathrooms, living spaces and everyday household needs remain.

And we would love for our community to help us finish what has been started.

In the coming days, A Mustard Seed Outreach will begin introducing our Adopt a Room campaign—an opportunity for individuals, families, community groups and businesses to help furnish and equip the spaces that will support the people who call The Petty Place home.

Some needs will be big. Some will be small. Every one of them will help create a place where greater independence, dignity and belonging can grow.

The construction story is nearing its end.

The home story is just beginning. 🏡

EVENT UPDATE

We were recently notified that the upcoming Freedom Waters Foundation Weller Day Boat Outing scheduled for September 13 has been canceled.

We know several of our families may have been looking forward to this opportunity—especially after hearing what a wonderful experience it has been for participants in the past—and we are disappointed right along with you.

We are grateful to Freedom Waters Foundation and the volunteers who work to create meaningful, inclusive experiences for individuals with special needs and their families.

If another opportunity becomes available in the future, A Mustard Seed Outreach will absolutely share it with our families.

🌱 We told you there was more happening behind these doors than meets the eye.

So today, we thought we’d let you inside.

The Petty Place is still a work in progress — but sometimes you have to stop in the middle of the work and look at just how far you’ve come.

What started as a vision is beginning to look a lot more like a home.

There are unfinished projects. There are things still waiting their turn. And there is plenty more of this story to tell.

But today?
