What Your Dollars Do!

Because of the incredible generosity and financial support of our community (that's YOU), The Go Lucy Go Foundation was recently able to wrap our arms around a family facing every parent’s worst nightmare—a critically ill child requiring an extended hospital stay.

Thanks to your donations, we were able to provide groceries, toiletries, and a few special goodies to bring some comfort during an unimaginably difficult time. The Foundation is also providing a financial grant to help ease the burden of mounting expenses.

When a child is seriously ill, life as a family changes instantly. Parents are pulled between hospital rooms, caring for siblings, emotional exhaustion, and trying to keep up with work and everyday financial responsibilities. The stress and uncertainty can feel overwhelming.

This support won’t take away the fear or heartache, but it can help relieve some of the practical stress—allowing this family to focus more fully on what matters most: their child.

This is the mission of The Go Lucy Go Foundation—to support families in the midst of a medical crisis with tangible help, compassion, and hope.

If you’d like to be part of making moments like this possible, please consider making a donation today: www.golucygo.org/donate.

Together, we can remind families that they do not have to walk this journey alone.

What's New With Lu?

Milestone Moment.

After 16 years, Lucy had her final appointment at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Her mother shared words that parents will resonate with deep in their hearts:

“I thought she had one more year left at her hospital, so I was not mentally prepared. I was very bothered driving down—my heart was in my stomach. It was just another appointment, but something was different. When I realized that was the last time she would sit in the patient chairs, I couldn’t breathe.”

Sixteen years is long enough for a hospital to stop feeling like just a place and become part of your family’s story—part refuge, part battlefield, part second home.

“I’ve cried so many tears that I’m sure there are none left. I’ve got some processing to do and it will take some time. St. Jude has been woven into our family threads for 16 years. It has been a safety net and a comfort knowing it was always there,” Kate, Lucy's mother said.

That is the part people don’t always talk about—survivorship carries its own kind of grief. Walking away from the place that helped save your child can feel like losing protection, even when the reason you’re walking away is hope.

“Even as Lucy had ultrasounds to check on the nodules on her liver, I knew that there was a doctor next door to make it all better. It’s just weird. The whole moment. The whole day. The full 16 years. It’s been a bad dream, but also a blessing.”

And yet, the most beautiful part may be how this chapter closes:

“Now I’ll go watch her ride horses and spend some time in my feelings.”

That’s the victory.

This is real. A mother leaving a children’s hospital with tears running down her face to go watch her daughter live her life. Sixteen years down. Hopefully a lifetime ahead.

Sending love to Lucy and her family—and gratitude for every doctor, nurse, caregiver, and prayer that helped carry them here.

Recently, The Go Lucy Go Foundation participated in Annual Literacy Day at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, a day dedicated to promoting literacy and reading among children. The hospital's Literacy Initiative aims to be a leader in literacy promotion through modeling and educating families, caregivers, and staff about the importance of reading to and with children.

Go Lucy Go donated 100 books, along with bookmarks, notepads, ladybug tattoos, and pencils to this project, which were distributed to patients.

Your donations enable the foundation to support programs such as this in our community. To donate to Go Lucy Go, visit www.golucygo.org/donate.

The Go Lucy Go Foundation held a Christmas dinner for the staff and some 250 families at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital complete with turkey, ham and all the trimmings.

The families were so thankful. Volunteers carried meals to the rooms for the families who didn’t wish to leave their children’s side.

Lucy passed out hygiene bags for the parents, which contained soaps, shampoos, toothbrushes and many other items. In addition, she passed out goody bags for the children full of crafts and fun activities.

This is what the Foundation is able to do because of your donations and we are thankful! Spending Christmas in the hospital is not anyone’s plan, but because of you, Go Lucy Go is able to spread Christmas cheer!
