Last Monday morning (May 11) about 150 fourth grade students from Southeast Fountain, Covington Christian, and Covington Elementary Schools visited the Fountain County Courthouse to learn how a Courtroom operates, and visited The 1842 Clerk's Building/Museum for a brief lesson of Fountain County history.
This field trip is an annual event. Sincere thanks to the schools for visiting, court personnel for their participation and art council members for organizing and portraying local historic personalities.

"Interesting Facts About
Fountain County Indiana
Day 165, 5/2/2026

The Indiana flag was adopted in 1917 from the 1916 Centennial flag design contest.
The torch represents liberty; rays are for far-reaching influence; 13 stars in the outer circle represent the original colonies; the semi-circle of 5 stars represents states admitted to the Union prior to Indiana; the star above the torch is for Indiana, the 19th State of the Union.

This is the final post of our "Interesting Facts" series for the 200 year celebration of Fountain County.
Facts were found in history books written through the years by local historians and folklore and stories handed down by generations of county residents. These bits of history were intended to peak interest and encourage further research by you, our readers.
We hope you have enjoyed these posts and thank you for your participation and comments. Additional information can be found at the 1842 Clerk's Building/Museum. Contact Carol Freese, County Historian, at House With the Lions Antiques, Covington.
