With the heavy rain expected to move into our area this weekend, possibly bringing several inches of rain, my heart is with the homeless here in Covington. ❤️
I know that during extremely cold weather, a warming shelter is sometimes opened. I'm wondering if anything similar will be available for those who need somewhere safe and dry during the heavy rain.
And please—no nasty comments and no judging the homeless.
Unless you've walked in someone else's shoes, you may not know the circumstances that brought them to where they are today. Have you ever actually sat down and listened to someone who is homeless tell you their story?
Many once had homes, jobs, vehicles, families and lives that looked much like everyone else's. Illness, addiction, job loss, tragedy, mental health struggles, family circumstances or simply one bad turn after another can change a person's life faster than we sometimes realize.
Our shelters are already full, and sleeping outside during days of heavy rain can become dangerous.
So this weekend, please remember those who don't have a warm, dry home to go to. If you see someone struggling and you're able to safely help—even with a rain poncho, dry socks, a blanket, food or information about shelter resources—sometimes a little kindness can mean more than we know.
Most of all, please keep our homeless neighbors in your prayers. 🙏❤️
Kindness costs nothing. Judgment doesn't help anyone.
