One17 Foundation

One17 Foundation Centering the adoptee voice & funding adoptions. One story at a time. 12 Years ago God started us down a path that would change everything. Seek Justice.

Creating a ripple effect of care for abused, under-served & orphaned children around the world. It was what we perceived as a call to start our family through adoption. 10 years ago we adopted our first son. 9 years ago we adopted our second. 8 years ago we began working with Luz y Vida, an orphanage for special needs children in Bogota, Colombia. Throughout all this we have felt a strong sense

that this was much bigger than our family. We knew we were responsible for telling our story, encouraging others, helping others adopt, and speaking up for those who cannot speak for themselves. An anchoring verse in Scripture has been Isaiah 1:17 where God says, “Learn to do right. Encourage the oppressed. Take up the cause of the orphan." God cares for those who are vulnerable, especially the orphan. As our calling to the orphan has become clearer, we now understand that our next step in advocating for the orphan is to Fund Adoption Stories that Influence Others to Act on Behalf of the Orphan and Create a Ripple Effect of Care. Our dream is to help fund 1000 adoptions by 2050.

Today, we want to share with you one of the most trusted adoption + foster care nonprofits/resources out there: .

They focus on producing stories and sharing resources that increase the number of people caring for children who are orphaned and vulnerable, to help them thrive! Our missions are very similar, and we love that they also have a focus on sharing stories.

If you haven't checked them out already, we can't recommend them enough - they're a fantastic hub for education and adoption resources.

A huge step for adoptees in Georgia! 👏

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 13, 2025
Governor Brian Kemp Signs SB100 “Andee’s Law,” Ending Decades of Discrimination Against Georgia Adoptees

ATLANTA, GA — In a landmark moment for adoptee rights, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed SB100 “Andee’s Law” into law today at the Georgia State Capitol, reversing more than six decades of sealed records and restoring a fundamental right to Georgia-born adopted people.

For 64 years, adult adoptees in Georgia were denied access to their own original birth certificates—a policy widely recognized as discriminatory and unjust. With today’s historic signing, that policy has come to an end.

Beginning July 1, 2025, Georgia-born adoptees aged 18 and older will be able to apply for and receive a copy of their original, pre-adoption birth certificate directly from the Georgia State Office of Vital Records—no court order required.

The Georgia Alliance for Adoptee Rights (GAAR), which has tirelessly advocated for this legislation, applauds the bipartisan support behind SB100 and the Governor’s commitment to adoptee equality.

GAAR will provide additional information and guidance about the application process in the coming weeks to help adoptees prepare for this long-awaited opportunity.

The Lay Family 📙
We are Lexi and Andy. We live in Cincinnati, OH with our dog, W***y, who has as much personality as another human. We have close extended family on each side and love spending time with our nieces and nephews. We call City Church our church home and while Sunday mornings there are fruitful, we have grown so much spiritually from spending each Tuesday night over the last year or so with our church house group. Outside of church we have a circle of friends with families that we get together with often for dinners and fellowship.

We have always known that we wanted to be parents and began trying to conceive just about a year and a half into marriage. Months went by slowly, turning into years and we were still unable to conceive on our own or with a little bit of help from doctors. With that, we took some time to live as a family of two and did our best to receive what God was giving us and doing in our home.

This made it that much more surprising to the both of us when the idea of adoption slowly started to be put on our hearts as a real possibility. We have watched a few families welcome new family members through adoption. While it was a slow and steady decision to actually begin the process to pursue adoption, it was a confident decision.

The agency we are working with was not taking new applicants at the time we had initially reached out, however, just two months later that changed and before we knew it we were signed up for education courses. Our agency works with expectant mothers, expectant adoptive families, and adoptive families in the state of Ohio. We learned about the beautiful and painful parts of adoption, practical things to remember, and ultimately that we will never stop learning. We really want to provide a child with a home where they are loved, comforted, safe, laugh a lot, and feel they can be who God created them to be.

-

We love the Lay family and are so proud to be able to have given them an adoption grant earlier in 2024! We're happy to report that their family has now been expanded through adoption ❤️
