Legal Aid of the Bluegrass Legal Aid of the Bluegrass pursues justice and transforms lives through free, high-quality civil legal services for low-income and vulnerable people.

LABG provides civil legal services to the low income people and special populations like veterans, domestic violence victims, nursing home residents and the elderly. The legal services we provide help people become free from violence, stay in their homes, remove barriers to employment, stabilize the family and ensure that the elderly get access to health care. During 2012 we closed 6,200 legal cases for 8,500 adults and 4,200 children. 3100 (including 1700 children) had been living with domestic violence, 514 were veterans or their families and 2,400 were elderly. Typical Legal Aid Cases:

Assisting the elderly in obtaining government benefits and prescription drugs
Helping victims of domestic violence escape abuse and rebuild their lives
Preventing evictions
Preventing foreclosures
Aiding victims of consumer fraud and those facing bankruptcy

During the month of October we celebrate Long Term Care Resident Rights and focus on honoring the dignity, respect, and the value of long-term care residents.

Residents have the right to self-determination and to use their voice to make their own choices. This year's Residents' Rights Month theme, Stand with Me, highlights the importance of solidarity and support for residents who stand up and advocate for their rights, as well as the value of encouraging the community to join residents in sharing their voices.

For more information about resident rights, how you can get involved, or help advocating for yourself or your loved one, please contact your local Long Term Care Ombudsman. https://lablaw.org/long-term-care-ombudsman

Every person deserves to feel safe.

At Legal Aid of the Bluegrass, one in five cases involves domestic violence or family-related legal issues. We help survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking understand their rights and seek available legal protections, including protective orders.

If you or someone you know needs legal help, we're here to listen.

This year's theme encourages residents to share their experiences, preferences, and traditions around food and dining, and for those around them to listen to their stories, uplift their voices, and work collectively towards ensuring that meals reflect dignity, choice, respect, and community.
