🍀 National 4-H Week: Going Green in Newton County

What does it mean to "Go Green"?

For 968 Newton County youth, going green means saying yes to new experiences, new friendships, new challenges, and new opportunities.

It means stepping into the spotlight for the first time, trying a new project, serving the community, exploring future careers, developing leadership skills, attending camp, competing in contests, and discovering interests and passions along the way.

Every young person has a different 4-H story, but each one is part of a larger story of growth, confidence, and possibility.

As we celebrate National 4-H Week, we're proud of the many ways Newton County youth are choosing to Go Green and make the most of the opportunities available to them through 4-H.

🌟🎡 Good luck to the Newton County 4-H’ers as they showcase their Static Exhibits at the Georgia National Fair!

The creativity of our youth never ceases to amaze us. From arts and crafts, sewing, education, and more, these projects reflect countless hours of learning, hard work, dedication, and imagination. Each entry is a testament to the talents, perseverance, and confidence of the young people who created them.

We are incredibly proud of every 4-H member who stepped up to create, learn, and share their skills through this competition. No matter the results, you have already made us proud by representing Newton County 4-H with excellence and enthusiasm.

New and returning shooters are invited to learn more about the Newton County 4-H SAFE BB Team!

Whether your 4-H'er is completely new to shooting sports or returning for another season, this interest meeting is the perfect opportunity to meet the coaches, learn about team expectations, review the tentative practice schedule, and ask questions.

🍀🍧Turning Shaved Ice Into Youth Opportunities!🍧🍀

Newton County 4-H is proud to partner with Kona Ice of E Covington-Watkinsville each year during the Newton County Rodeo. Through this annual partnership, a portion of sales helps support local 4-H youth and the programs that help them learn, lead, serve, and grow.

This past weekend, during the 2026 Newton County Rodeo, Kona Ice presented Newton County 4-H with a donation of $507! 🎉

Since this partnership began in 2023, Kona Ice has contributed an incredible $1,906.60 to support Newton County 4-H programming.

From leadership development and competitive events to camps and hands-on learning experiences, these funds help create opportunities that make a lasting impact on young people across our community.

A heartfelt thank you to Kona Ice for investing in Newton County 4-H and helping us turn shaved ice into youth opportunities, one cup at a time! 💚🍀

🤠🐎 Mrs. Charlene and Mrs. Tina had a fantastic time at the 2026 Newton County Rodeo last night!

Our Vendor Buckle Trail Ride was a huge success! One participant shared, "I was hesitant at first, but it made me feel like I was 12 years old again and pushed me out of my comfort zone!" To make it even better, she ended up being one of our prize winners!

A big thank you to Kona Ice, which helped raise $225 for Newton County 4-H during the event. 🍧💚

If you're coming out tonight, be sure to stop by the Newton County 4-H booth and say hello! And when the temperatures rise, grab a delicious Kona Ice and help support Newton County 4-H at the same time.

🧥 Teaching Through Play at Cotton Boll & Consumer Judging Practice!

Learning happens best when youth are engaged, moving, and having fun! During our Cotton Boll & Consumer Judging practice, we focused on jacket categories and performance features through a variety of hands-on activities.

📺 We kicked things off by creating commercials for different jacket categories, showcasing creativity while learning and teaching key product features.

🤔 We then played “Guess What Jacket I Am?”, with clues taped to their backs. Using yes or no questions to identify jacket features participants had to determine what jacket they were.

✅ Next we worked together to sort scenarios, matching the right jacket to the right situation and thinking critically about consumer needs.

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ To wrap up, we learned about the three layers of a jacket through our exciting 3-Layer Legged Race! Youth discovered how base, insulating, and outer layers work together to provide comfort and protection, all while racing, laughing, and learning.

When learning is active, memorable, and fun, knowledge sticks! We are proud of our Cotton Boll & Consumer Judging participants for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and willingness to learn. 🍀💚
