It is with a heavy heart that I share the loss of a dear friend, fellow Soldier, and Atlanta Public Schools JROTC instructor.

This loss is deeply personal. We served together, and I am grateful that our connection continued through our shared love for serving young people. It means so much to have memories of him both in uniform and as part of the JROTC community.

At JROTC in the Community, we know how much our instructors mean to their students. They offer guidance, encouragement, and lessons that students carry with them long after graduation. Losing someone who was part of that work is felt far beyond the classroom.

On behalf of JROTC in the Community, please join me in keeping his family, friends, fellow instructors, and cadets in your prayers. May they find comfort in the memories they shared and in knowing that his life and service mattered.

Rest well, my friend. Thank you for your service, your friendship, and the part you played in the lives of our young people. You will be dearly missed. 🕊️

140 tickets. So many smiles. Memories our students will carry for years. ❤️🏀

Atlanta Dream, I truly don’t know if I can adequately express how grateful I am for what you made possible for our young people!

On behalf of our students, staff, and JROTC in the Community, THANK YOU for providing 140 tickets for JROTC students from Newton County and Atlanta Public Schools to experience an Atlanta Dream playoff game at State Farm Arena!

For some of our students, this was their first game at State Farm Arena—and their first experience was a PLAYOFF GAME! 🙌🏽 The excitement, the energy, and watching them take it all in meant more to me than I can put into words. Those smiles reminded me exactly why I love doing this work.

An opportunity like this can mean so much to a young person. Being included. Going somewhere new. Making memories with friends and instructors. Having a day to laugh, cheer, and simply enjoy themselves. For many of our students, this will be one of those core memories they talk about long after the final buzzer.

This is what we want to make possible through JROTC in the Community! We’re connecting our young people with a community that believes in them and opening doors to experiences they may not otherwise have. Alongside leadership, mentorship, and service, there should also be room for joy! ❤️

Thank you, Atlanta Dream, for trusting us to share this opportunity with our schools. Being able to tell our instructors, “We have something special for your cadets,” meant so much to me. You helped us turn that excitement into an unforgettable experience.

Thank you for thinking of us, making room for our students, and helping bring the vision of JROTC in the Community to life. When organizations and communities show up for our young people, look at what we can make happen!

This opportunity represents more than an individual achievement—it’s a recognition of our organization’s commitment to empowering youth, building community partnerships, and creating pathways to success for the students we serve.

We look forward to learning alongside an outstanding group of leaders, strengthening relationships throughout Newton County, and bringing new ideas and resources back to benefit our community.

Last week, we held our final workshop of the year for our Pathways to Purpose program at Newton High School— and what an incredible way to close out the season!

We were honored to welcome SSgt Cunningham, a recruiter with the United States Marine Corps, who shared valuable insight into his personal journey and the opportunities available for students interested in military service. We also had the privilege of hearing from Dr. Clifton Gregory Meals and Dr. Gireesh R, who inspired our students by sharing their experiences, career paths, and words of encouragement.

Programs like this remind our youth that there are many pathways to success, and we are grateful to every speaker, mentor, and supporter who poured into our students this year.

We are especially thankful to ChangeX and Amazon for believing in our vision and helping bring this program to life. Your support made it possible for us to create meaningful opportunities, impactful conversations, and lasting inspiration for the young people we serve.
