Discovering the true meaning of "Holiday Spirit" may seem like quite the task at hand. Commercialism has turned holidays into paychecks for large businesses and all of the products and dazzling trinkets make us turn a blind eye to those who need a helping hand. Mary's don't come from easy situations. They struggle to maintain social connections and are hardly ever shown the warmth of love and kind
ness. This holiday please don't get caught in the void that we have created to substitute pure generosity. Instead think of the kids that need everyday items that we take for granted. I'm not asking you to donate because you have to. What I am asking though, is that if you find it in your heart to give or donate to these children please do. Do not fight or bury this urge. The care these children need is dire. If you wish to donate please contact either Domique or myself at [email protected] or [email protected]. Donations can be mailed to or dropped off at 11 Knight st coventry RI 02816. If you are unable to drop things off or mail them then arrangements can be made for someone to pick up the objects. The following items are what St. Mary's hopes to find in donations:
~Gift certificates for entertainment (movies, bowling, music/video stores, ~ice skating)
~Gift certificates for fast-food, restaurants, pizza
~Hygiene products (toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, brushes, hair accessories, make-up, deodorant)
~School supplies, craft & art supplies (stickers, paper, craft kits)
~Games & puzzles
~Cash donations
~Small items to be used as incentives (cosmetics, trading cards, jewelry, lotions, small toys)
~Pajamas (two-piece), sizes- child/medium to adult/XXL
~DVD movies - must be rated G, PG or PG 13
Homemade scarfs, blankets and other thoughtful crafts would also be wonderful. Another cute idea would be to get your whole family together to write letters or cards to the children as a way of showing them that someone cares. If you can't afford the extra cash to purchase items then please go through your closets, drawers, garages, basements, attics, storages and so on, and really think about what you don't need and what someone else does.
