MAIL checks to Bones Pet Rescue, P.O. BONES Pet Rescue, (Better Options for NEglected Strays), is a nonprofit organization. We are a rescue and sanctuary where the focus is elderly, disabled and hospice animals. Most have come to us from shelters where they were deemed unadoptable and would have been euthanized. We are home to all types of animals, but primarily dogs and cats. Because we are in an isolated area, with the closest other animal services being over an hour away, we are called on to rescue younger, adoptable animals as well, which we place in suitable homes. Bones began in 1998 in Covelo, California, when a starved, emaciated young mixed breed dog showed up on the school grounds. There were no rescue options handy but someone knew that there was someone in the community who cared about animals and might be able to help. The dog was named Bones and was nursed back to good health. Bones lived a wonderful life for many years and his legacy is what is now Bones Pet Rescue, of which he was the founding member. Since the year 2000 we have taken in some 5,000 animals. These were animals that were sick, injured, stray, orphaned and in many cases abandoned. We have provided them with veterinary care, food, a comfortable place to live and, in most cases, a new home with a loving family; almost all the rest were able to have a lifetime home in our sanctuary. These are the elderly, disabled and otherwise unadoptable animals; they are given medical care, a safe and comfortable home and lots of love. Some of the animals that come to us need critical care and in some cases, hospice care. We do our best to make sure that they enjoy a good quality of life until they cross the Rainbow Bridge. We believe that the end stage of life is just as important as the beginning. Please help us by supporting our efforts to provide for animals in need. Every dollar goes to the animals. We have no paid staff; just dedicated volunteers, who we cherish. Donations are tax deductible. Tax ID #: 74-3055225.

POSSIBLE SCAM ALERT:

We have just noticed that someone JUST NOW commented on one of our 2024 posts (!!) A person named Marion Coleman is posting that an organization called "Veterinary Alumni Association" is selling T-shirts with Bones Pet Rescue printed on them.

You can see the comment by Marion Coleman on a posting we did on April 18, 2024.

It could appear that we have sponsored or are in some way involved in this sale. WE ARE NOT.

We have not authorized sales to this person/organization and are considering the comment to be spam. There is no mention in the advertisement that any proceeds of sales will go to Bones Pet Rescue, Covelo CA.

Purchase if you like, of course, but know that this is someone advertising on our Page without our permission or backing and that Bones Pet Rescue will NOT BENEFIT by sales.

Important facts about puppy activity and exercise.

🤷‍♂️What the majority don’t realise and most won’t tell you…

When you take home your 8 week old puppies, please keep these images in mind. Their bones do not even touch yet. They plod around so cutely with big floppy paws and wobbly movement because their joints are entirely made up of muscle, tendons, ligaments with skin covering. Nothing is fitting tightly together or has a true socket yet.

When you run them excessively or don't restrict their exercise to stop them from overdoing it during this period you don't give them a chance to grow properly. Basically you’re reversing the fusing process by overexercising your pup. Every big jump or excited bouncing run causes impacts between the bones. In reasonable amounts this is not problematic and is the normal wear and tear that every animal will engage in.

When you're letting your puppy jump up and down off the lounge or bed, take them for long walks/hikes, you are damaging that forming joint. When you let the puppy scramble on tile with no traction you are damaging the joint.

You only get the chance to grow them once. A well built body is something that comes from excellent breeding and a great upbringing-BOTH, not just one.

Once grown you will have the rest of their life to spend playing and engaging in higher impact exercise. So keep it calm while they're still little baby puppies and give the gift that can only be given once.

🦴 Many of your German Shepherds puppy bones are not fully fused until around the 15 to 18 months of age👌👌👌.
