Please join the SCFRA in extending our most heartfelt sympathies to the members of Drewryville Volunteer Fire Department and the Flowers family on the loss of Fireman James Flowers. Not only did James serve as a founding member of DVFD, but was also a Southampton County LEGEND for the famous hotdogs and “Flowers Special” sandwiches he served from his store for decades. James will be deeply missed by all.

We are saddened to announce the passing of Charter/Life Member James Flowers. James was involved in the beginning of our department around 1965 and was one of the original members when the department was chartered in 1967. James faithfully served the department until 1987, around the same time he took over Flowers Exxon in Courtland. James operated this store for many years, selling his world famous (at least everyone local thinks) hotdogs. James was a familiar face to our community, still coming by the station to show his support, attending each fundraiser the department did, as well as attending our annual awards banquet since its inception.

James was awarded life membership in 2026 as the 6th person to receive the honor, which he admired and appreciated greatly. At that time he was one of two of the last living charter members of the department.

Over the next week, you will see this engine placed outside the station each morning in remembrance of our faithful and dedicated friend.

The department sends our most heartfelt condolences to the Flowers family. Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you, you have forever been and forever will be part of this department.

To James, as you have done for the past 59 years of this department, keep a watch over us, keep us safe. We will forever remember your dedication and support.

Congratulations to Station 6 getting their new E-One engine in service. Engine 64 didn’t sit in her bay very long before she answered her first call. Well done IVFD, a great job enhancing your abilities to serve the Ivor community and surrounding mutual aid departments.

Congratulations Station 9 on placing the new Eng 91 in service. All County stations are looking forward to having this great piece of apparatus available to serve our citizens.

As of 4:15PM today (7/2/26), the new Engine 91 is in service serving the community! Thank you to all our members and other community members who worked to get everything ready for this day. There is still one more surprise coming with the new truck for everyone to see but that will come later.😉

Join us July 25 from 11 AM–2 PM for a BBQ Fundraiser benefiting Retired FFR Deputy Chief Mark Carr as he fights blood cancer.

I just could not let this milestone pass by and not share it here. Hunterdale Volunteer Fire Department established the second junior Fire Department program in Southampton County, behind the model built by Ivor Volunteer Fire Department a couple years earlier. The concept caught on quickly county wide due to its overwhelming investment in the future of the departments, all County fire departments had junior departments in the next few years thanks to an outstanding model program. Gene Drewery, Southampton County Fire & Rescue Association will be forever grateful for your perseverance and passion to institute a program that deeply impacted every one of our fire departments in a significant way. Thank you just does not seem like enough. Well done Chief.
