I just could not let this milestone pass by and not share it here. Hunterdale Volunteer Fire Department established the second junior Fire Department program in Southampton County, behind the model built by Ivor Volunteer Fire Department a couple years earlier. The concept caught on quickly county wide due to its overwhelming investment in the future of the departments, all County fire departments had junior departments in the next few years thanks to an outstanding model program. Gene Drewery, Southampton County Fire & Rescue Association will be forever grateful for your perseverance and passion to institute a program that deeply impacted every one of our fire departments in a significant way. Thank you just does not seem like enough. Well done Chief.

It is deep regret that we announce the passing of Southampton County Fire & Rescue Association member from Station 3 Capron Volunteer Fire-Rescue, Chris Blue.

Chris served the Capron Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department for over 20 years, rising to the rank of Assistant Fire Chief. In recent years, Chris had stepped back a little and enjoyed the opportunity to watch the young firefighters he had help mentor move forward and lead the department.

Chris’ commitment and dedication to his department was deep and unselfish, setting an example for the young men and women who followed, not only at the fire station, but in life as a whole.

Please join me in keeping the family of Chief Blue, as well as his fellow firefighters at Capron Fire & Rescue in our prayers during this difficult time.

Funeral Arrangements from Chief Francis:
I would like to take a moment to update everyone on the arrangements for Christopher Blue. The service will take place on Saturday, February 14th at 11:00 am at Shiloh Baptist Church in Boykins, followed by a repass at Capron Station 3. The family has requested that we honor Chris with a unified representation from the Fire & Rescue community.

On behalf of SCFRA, we offer our heartfelt congratulations to Ivor Volunteer Fire Department on 75 years of service to the town of Ivor and the surrounding areas of Southampton County. The IVFD has long been one of the pioneers in the fire service, not only in Southampton, but across the region. Specifically, organizing the first Junior Fire Department in the area in 1975. So many departments followed the model of a remarkable concept, which paved the way for most all volunteer firefighters in our part of the Commonwealth. Nearly all current firefighters in our County, and many officers began their service as junior firemen.
To the members of the Ivor Volunteer Fire Department, your fellow departments from the SCFRA salute you for a job well done for 75 years.

Southampton County Fire & Rescue Association joins with our brothers and sisters at Courtland Volunteer Fire Department in mourning the loss of Chief Forrest’s father. Ricky was a tremendous supporter of not only CVFD, but to all Southampton Fire and Rescue departments.
Chief, our hearts are with your family, may God grant comfort to you all.

Courtland Joseph Richard Ricky Forrest, IV, 65, passed away May 6, 2025 in his home with family by his side. Born and raised in Southampton County, he was a son of the late Joseph Richard Forrest, III and Jane Wiltermood Forrest. Ricky was a truck driver. He loved family, friends,

Job well done Boykins Fire-Rescue Courtland Volunteer Fire Department Hunterdale Volunteer Fire Department Ivor Volunteer Fire Department assisting our brothers and sisters in the Caribbean and South America through the Engine 911 FUND! It’s a great day when any of us can aid any of our fellow firefighters. Even as underfunded as we remain, it’s always a blessing to be able to assist other regions in greater need. In the end, we are all the same brothers and sisters working for the greater good.
