The 2025–2026 Coupeville Lions Club year was celebrated last night at our annual Installation Dinner held at the Recreation Hall in Coupeville. For one special evening, Lions vests were left hanging in the closet and replaced with casual dinner attire as members gathered to enjoy fellowship and recognize the many hours of service dedicated to our community throughout the year.

Our evening was emceed by MD19 O-7 Zone Chair Bobbi Lornson, who welcomed the incoming officers and thanked Gary Youngs for returning to serve another year as Club President.

Throughout the evening, several Lions were recognized for their individual contributions, leadership, and commitment to our Club’s mission of service. The highlight of the night was the presentation of the Lion of the Year Award to Pat Hernandez, honoring her outstanding dedication and service to both the Club and the community.

The prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow Award was also acknowledged during the program. However, as the recipient was unable to attend, recognition of this distinguished honor will be shared at a later date.

As we look ahead to another year of service, we remain grateful for the friendships, teamwork, and generosity that continue to make the Coupeville Lions Club such a positive force in our community.

Each year, the Coupeville Lions Club hosts its Annual Scholarship Auction & Dinner to raise funds for local graduating seniors. Thanks to the generosity of our community, this year we awarded $42,000 in scholarships to nine (one student is not pictured) students residing within the Coupeville School District. Coupeville Lions Club President Gary Youngs (rt) and Past President Dave Fish (left) presented the awards to the students.

Congratulations to these outstanding young adults as they begin their next chapter!

The Coupeville Lions Club is proud to recognize and celebrate the achievements of local students through its Student of the Quarter Program. Each quarter, two outstanding students are selected by the faculty and administrators of Coupeville High School for their academic achievement, leadership, character, and contributions to the school community.

Student recipients are invited to attend a Coupeville Lions Club meeting, where they are honored following a potluck dinner and given the opportunity to share a 5–10 minute presentation about their experiences, interests, goals, and accomplishments. Each student receives a personalized plaque commemorating this recognition.

In addition, all Student of the Quarter recipients become eligible for the prestigious Student of the Year Award, presented during Senior Awards Night in June. The Coupeville Lions Club further supports these exceptional students by awarding each Student of the Year recipient a $500 check, presented by the Coupeville Lions Club President.

The Coupeville Lions Club is pleased to congratulate this year's Student of the Year recipients, Teagan Calkins and George Spear. Their dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence exemplify the bright future of our community. We are honored to recognize their accomplishments and wish them continued success in all their future endeavors.

Congratulations, Teagan and George! Your Coupeville Lions Club is proud of you. 🦁🎓✨ (left of the students is Lion Robin Bernardy, Coupeville Lions Club Chair for the Students of the Quarter Program.)

A shout out and gratitude of thanks to the Coupeville Chamber of Commerce's excellent photographer for the following photos! She captured moments of the parade from various entries as well as a Coupeville Lions' unexpected moment - passing out candy, securing the PBY plane, driving an old fashion car, our Club's banner and keeping the Wurlitzer Organ rolling along!

What an honor for the Coupeville Lions Club to help park cars today at Crockett Barn on Fort Casey Road.

Five Lions, Von Summers, Sandy Johnson, Hugh Hedges and Dave & Robin Bernardy along with Crockett Barn owners Lions Paula Spina and Lance Loomis, helped welcome guests attending the Celebration of Life for Nancy Skinner Nordhoff (1932–January 7, 2026), an American philanthropist and environmentalist whose work empowered women, supported rural communities, and promoted the protection of Washington’s natural flora and fauna.

In 2006, Nancy was recognized as a Women’s History Month Honoree by the National Women’s History Project.

It was a privilege to serve in this small way for such a meaningful gathering — and that grassy lot has never been so full!
